The Vortec 4.3 isn't very popular, but it has been done several times.
Russ544 had a 4.3L swap (and a SBC, and a N*) - here are one of his threads:

There are several other 4.3 swaps by people who are not on the forum. The 4.3 swap is appealing for the hp/torque increase vs. stock and is a much simpler install than a SBC (lots more room). With my 94 CPI/4T60 swap I would get 25-27 mpg on my daily commute and up to 32 mpg on the interstate. If you build them for the 1/4 mile with an automatic, at least 1 has gotten into the 12's... The other really neat thing about them you are almost assured of being the only 4.3L fiero where every you take it. Only once have I have the pleasure of seeing another 4.3L when I was driving mine (Dieselfiero's at the Fiero Factory swap meet a couple of years ago.)
My latest 4.3L swap was based on the 99 4.3, 94 CPI camshaft, modified CPI intake to fit the Vortec heads and to flip the upper plenum, custom water pump, accessory drive, headers, adapter plate, 4 corner rubber mounted (not solid mounted), F40 6 speed, tubular cradle and lots, lots more. Plus the accessory drive, engine mounts and cradle are fully interchangeable between the 4.3 and a SBC. Within 1/2 hr I can remove the 4.3 from the cradle and have the SBC bolted into place... and everything clears the frame rails.

Eventually I will pick up another 88 Fiero and install this engine into it.
