I ran a 94 4.3 CPI/4T60 swap for a couple of years and then built a 99 4.3 Vortec/CPI hybrid/F40 swap but have put it on the back burner for now (LS4/F40 distraction).
This thread contains lots of info and pictures of both swaps:

Just do a SBC swap but leave the last two spark plugs out.

Bad idea. You'd have so much fuel wash that your bearings would be ruined in a week. Serious.
Now, tongue-in-cheek, leave the last 2 injectors out instead!

Thanks for the welcome guys, I had a 86 2m6 when I was in highschool in 92. I sold it in 96 and have been wanting another ever since. I just made a verbal commitment to buy an 86 Gt a few days ago, and I hope to be able to pick it up in a couple weeks. I plan on doing a 3.4 swap eventually, but I have always thought that the 4.3 vortec would be good for a Fiero. My Dad had a blazer with the 4.3 vortec in it when I had the 2m6, and my yournger brother would give me all I could handle when we would leave the house in the two. Thanks again for the welcome, and I'm sure I will have tons of questions.

The Vortec 4.3 isn't very popular, but it has been done several times.

Russ544 had a 4.3L swap (and a SBC, and a N*) - here are one of his threads:
https://www.fiero.nl/forum/A...050119-1-044164.html

Vortecfiero has a turbo 4.3L swap using a Syclone intake manifold.
https://www.fiero.nl/forum/Forum1/HTML/073027.html

Cowan1984 was working on a vortec 4.3L swap:
https://www.fiero.nl/forum/A...090907-2-088725.html

Egor was also working on one:
https://www.fiero.nl/forum/Forum2/HTML/092185.html

Dieselfiero also has a 4.3L diesel swap

There are several other 4.3 swaps by people who are not on the forum. The 4.3 swap is appealing for the hp/torque increase vs. stock and is a much simpler install than a SBC (lots more room). With my 94 CPI/4T60 swap I would get 25-27 mpg on my daily commute and up to 32 mpg on the interstate. If you build them for the 1/4 mile with an automatic, at least 1 has gotten into the 12's... The other really neat thing about them you are almost assured of being the only 4.3L fiero where every you take it. Only once have I have the pleasure of seeing another 4.3L when I was driving mine (Dieselfiero's at the Fiero Factory swap meet a couple of years ago.)

My latest 4.3L swap was based on the 99 4.3, 94 CPI camshaft, modified CPI intake to fit the Vortec heads and to flip the upper plenum, custom water pump, accessory drive, headers, adapter plate, 4 corner rubber mounted (not solid mounted), F40 6 speed, tubular cradle and lots, lots more. Plus the accessory drive, engine mounts and cradle are fully interchangeable between the 4.3 and a SBC. Within 1/2 hr I can remove the 4.3 from the cradle and have the SBC bolted into place... and everything clears the frame rails.

Eventually I will pick up another 88 Fiero and install this engine into it.
