Been thinking about a hatchback for my notchback and thought I'd have to do a fast back conversion first but then I saw this:

Anyone know what glass was used, and would it fit on a non stretched car? Was there a build thread here for that car? Sig link seems to be dead.

The build thread is here:
https://www.fiero.nl/forum/Forum3/HTML/000007.html

He recently sold the car to another PFF member.

Edit......On page 18 he mentions that it is a Camaro glass and posts photos.

That car used a 3rd gen Camaro rear glass. The only reason it fits is due to the chassis stretch in the rear (maybe 8-12"... forget the exact amount).

The 4th gen camaro glass is also a close fit on a stock wheel base fiero, but is too long for the notchie decklid. It does barely fit the fastback decklid:

Someday I wil get around to doing this swap (already have all the parts)...

Is the 3rd gen longer than the 4th gen? How much does the glass weigh? How much longer is the fastback lid, maybe a small extension to the notch deck would make it work?

The fastback rear is probably about 3" longer at the rear. The Notchie tail lights and decklid angle forward vs. the fast back going pretty much straight up from the bumper belt line.

Yes, the 3rd gen is quite a bit longer and doesn't fit the notch back lines quite as well. Bubbajoes car has a 12" stretch and with it the 3rd gen hatch just barely fits, and you can see how much of the side panels needed to be removed to get the glass back to the roof line:

The glass portion extends several inches into the flat deck lid part... Here you can see the bolt hole locations that sandwich the end of the decklid to the hatch glass.

I think an unstretched chassis will be atleast 4" too short to use the 3rd gen glass.

These hatch glass panels are HEAVY... probably in the 50 to 75 lbs range.

Thanks for the info. I might be better off building something to fit from scratch out of lexan or something. Or finding a smaller glass window and framing that. I like the Camaro windows since they curve and don't increase the blind spot, a flatter window would mean I'd probably need to add some side glass. Or just get a fastback rear and go from there.

try other windows. RX7, GEO Storm etc.. I have been looking at other cars in the J-Yard for this too. Don't give up, if it was easy, everyone would be doing it.
