I already installed new speaker in dash and now getting ready to do the rears in my 88
What size does everyone use? Having a hard time finding 4x6 shallow speakers.
Will regular 4x6 fit ??

Thanks

Some do, some dont, Need to measure the stock ones and find measurments on the ones your looking at. Some have also use 4" component sets there too, but again some dont fit the depth.

Have you tried Crutchfield, www.crutchfield.com. The web site has a feature that tells you if a stereo fits in your car. It might work for speakers also.

I went with some BOSS brand 4x6's. They fit fine as long as you only screw in one top and one bottom on opposite sides. They sound great for me. Keep in mind you can have a very expensive system in your fiero and it can sound low end if brands are mixed. This is because a lot of different stereos and speakers operate on different frequencies. I chose boss as it was a good brand and cheap too. (they also have shallow mount amplified subs that fit perfectly behind the seats) Just a few things to keep in mind. Good luck.

Sorry I forgot to mention the reason as to why I only put two screws in mounting the speakers. I did that so that way I would not bend the metal of the speaker. The depth was not an issue for me, though it was close.

There is a plastic base that the stock speaker mounts to. You need to use this to keep the speaker flat so it doesn't "bend" to the metal frame of the car and it gives you a 1/4" more clearance.

You'll have to remove the inner B pillar panels to get at the speakers. As mentioned, speakers mount to a plastic bracket shaped to fit the curves of the pillar. As you know, the main problem is speaker magnet size and depth.

People have mentioned Pioneer and Polk Audio as fitting fine, but didn't give model numbers.

Pioneer also makes a good 4 X 6" 2 way speaker for that location. They also sell a 4x10" for the front that works well with no modofcations.

Also infinity, and others, make 4x6" plate speakers that sound good, but you might have to trim the mount slightly.

There is a thread somewhere about using plywood spacers to mount deeper 4x6 or 4x6 plates. I did this with some infinity 4x6 plates and it worked well except I blew them out right away.
Anyone wanna buy one 4x6 plate speaker?

I have a new set of Kenwood 4x10 in the dash from Crutchfield already. The only shallow 4x6 speaker they list is 140.00 WOW
and it does not have good reviews and I like Kenwood. Does anyone know of a shallow Kenwood 4x6 ?

Thanks

I ended up with a set of Kenwood 4x6s that fit. There was a really cheap set that fit great, but sounded like crap. I had to upgrade to the "Better' Kenwood ones for decent sound. The bill lists it as x462c. I did have to trim the plastic mounting ring a bit, but the magnet fit in the car, and I didn't have to mess with any of the sheet metal. Think I paid like $79 a set.

Local Audio Chain here called "Mickey Shore". I really dislike buying from them, but they were the only place that had a set that fit. Think I got them in April or May. Looks like they are discontinued now. Seem to be Replaced by the KFC-X463C. I don't know if they are the same size or not.

I bought Pyle speakers all around for my 86. I used the 4X10 yellows for the front and the 4X6b Blue for the pillars. Here's the link for the pillar speakers:

http://www.newegg.com/Produ...22&SpeTabStoreType=0

The pillars are kinda low on drive so I would recommednd trying the yellows instead. The couple bucks difference at the time seemed like a deal. My head unit is a stock stereo from a Grand Prix that uses a CD. With a more modern head unit, you might have better luck with the blues for the rear.
