When replacing, can you remove the grilles and then the speaker, or is it all done from behind. Thanks.

You need to pull the panel.
The rivets (more like posts with the ends melted) are molded into the cover and are very fragile.
I broke mine and had to glue the cover back on.

Pulling the panel ain't no thing. One big torx bolt holding the upper seat belt support and one phillips in the door opening.

5 minute job.

Yes you have to pull the panel off. Be careful because there are tabs and xmas tree fasteners. Trees are replaceable but the tabs are not if you break them. Just pull them out enough to shine a flash-light inside so you can locate the fasteners, then you will be able to figure out how to remove them. I wanted to replace my rear speakers with PIONEER 4x6(120w each), but when I put the speakers in the hole, they stuck out by about 1/4". The magnet bottomed out. Which meant I could not put the panel back at the same height. I was forced to put the originals back in, and they sound terrible with new 4 ohms up front. What speakers will you be using? Let us know if they fit.

I'm still looking. What model Pioneer did you try and / or what was the depth?

I can't recall what number the PIONEER speakers were, I sold them, but I made a sketch of them, so I have the dimensions. The magnet was 3" and it was 2" away from the face where it bolts to the body sheet metal. Hope this helps. I believe the stock ones are about a 1/4" shallower.

Pioneer makes a component 4x6 with the round 4 inch next to the tweeter that fits in the hole.

I put Pioneers in the back of mine and they fit fine. The mounting was a little strange; the speaker comes with a plastic adapter frame which has to be screwed to the speaker, then this assembly screws into the Fiero speaker adapter. Three hands make it easier...

They fit without problem, though - and they sound great. Surprising for such a small speaker.

is there any real reason to replace the grill for those speakers? is it a BIG part of the cosmetics of the interior or is it a little cover for the speaker and the metal there? when in doubt use washers to raise a speaker, thats what i did in my taurus.
