Who the hell is Scott?

I am beginning to wonder if you are a banned member who created a new account. Let me guess, you are emc209i. The timing of his ban and your account creation are not too far off. You had a bad experience with a 3.4 DOHC, so you jumped on the 3800SC bandwagon. That would explain your hatred for the 3.4 DOHC and why you are such a 3800SC fan.

If you are him, then just keep it up. Your new account will get banned too.

I really dont wanna drive to get one and I know this one runs good and the guy will crank it for me before I purchase it. (After I sell this truck of course) Anyone need a custom delux truck?

You could try checking on www.car-part.com. The SC engines I see there are a bit high in your area but there is a series3 NA 3800 for $655 with 17,000 miles. Just keep checking and maybe you might find something.

Good luck, Steve

Thanks JumpStart... I have looked at CAR-PART.COM several times and sometimes you can find ok deals. That NA price is not to shabby, but I still want the SC so I would pass on that. Nice looking out though. But the reality of it all is no engine will not get swapped till I get this C-10 sold. http://littlerock.craigslis.../cto/1963970793.html I may be asking too much for it but I think its a fair price. Motor is strong and it drives nice. I think I am going with the 3800SC as soon as its sold. I feel pretty confident that the 3800SC will be a nice fit for my car.

A local Fiero buddy and I drove it today, well till we pulled back into the driveway and she died. :\ Its the craziest thing, it runs for a while then just dies. No fuel. Its crazy. But this 3800SC will fix that once I sell this darn truck!

OK I am about to drive myself crazy with this...

The 3.4 will only gain about 70 HP over the duke as opposed to 130 with a L67. The performance question is a no brainer..

I have 2 questions for you all that knows... What kind of performance difference would the 3.4 gain above the iron duke? The same question pertains to the L67SC. My heart is set on the L67SC but what all extras should I look to have to invest in. Same with the 3.4. I know I have to have the wiring harness built and I would love to mock this up on another cradle before I even though about dropping the duke. Does anyone think its possible to do this swap for a smooth $1K? That is about my budget not a penny over. I am just wondering if I should find a 2.8L GT Fastback as opposed to doing a motor swap.

Thoughts, questions, ideas? Thanks.

With your budget, you have no choice but to use what you can cobble together from the yards (see Darkhorizon's posts). Your only option were you to be still considering a DOHC would be to buy one of these engines, and have it shipped to you: https://www.fiero.nl/forum/F...1/HTML/082369-2.html

Buying a used 3.4 DOHC from the yard and installing it without a rebuild, would be like walking into hell without a pair of tennis shoes on.
You can find NA 3800's all day in the yards with lots of life left, and they'd fit into your budget well. Then you could always top swap the supercharger when you get a little bit more disposable income. Just something to think about. The L67 and L32 still run a premium, unless you can find them from a yard that charges flat rate for any V6 engine.

Personally, I wouldn't try doing either swap for $1000 or less. I bought a half-completed one, and spent more then a grand in just fixing it up. Mounts, Alternator (low mount?), wiring, new gaskets, plugs, fluids, fuel pump, exhaust alone add up really quickly, and possibly over a grand, then add an engine into the mix and any other things you find you need to fix, and it's going ot get costly. I know Dark always finds these incredible deals, and sure, if you are able to do that, you may be ok. If, however, you don't find the "deals," the swap can cost some serious money. I prob have over $2,000 into mine between the parts above, and just little extras I ran into, and it's still not fully complete.

Yes.

A great deal of value entered into swap cost is directly correlated to know how and ability. The more you know, the less its going to cost. Reading and starting a journal will greatly improve your chances of meeting a $1000.00 goal. I'm going to send you a PM with some information.
