3. What are viable electric water pump options? The 3 that I know about are Moroso, Meziere, and CSI. Seems like most of these that fit in the stock location require cutting and modding. I believe there are a couple options that mount remotely. Does the Moroso part # 635339 fit without modding?
For those too lazy to click on the link, there is a photo of a CSI water pump mounted on a conversion V8 and another showing the sheet metal that needs to be removed. The plastic inner wheel well liner will cover up the hole once the swap is completed.
The Water pump mounts upside down, which doesn't interfere with it's proper operation. If you were to mount it right side up it would be necessary to do some frame cutting to clear the hose connections and the hoses. There is a a-symmetrical hole in the Water Pump and a corresponding hole in the engine block these holes need to be plugged as described in the Video Instruction Tape.

Remote mounting the electric pump is the easiest solution to avoid trimming the wheel well. Several have mounted them where the battery was or even down below that panel.
If you decide to go mechanical, the short water pump is the one you need (the longer one is just too large.
If you bolt the water pump directly to the engine (mechanical or electrical), it will dictate overall drivetrain elevation (pump body must go over the frame rail, unless you want to cut it). With the engine at this elevation, the passenger decklid hinge box will need to be trimmed to clear the valve cover.
My old setup used a modified SBC housing and a 3400 water pump insert to accomodate a belt drive on the rear of the pump. Some custom 1 3/4" offset housings moved the pump to the front and lifted the rear so everything cleared the wheel well and frame rail while allowing the engine to be low enough for the valve cover to clear an un cut hinge box. This rotated installation also lowered the coolant entrance so it was easier for the coolant from the radiator to enter the pump.

I don't follow the asymmetrical hole thing. I'll have to do more research I guess. EDIT: Nevermind, I see what hole you're talking about in the pic that was posted.
Guru, I'm glad you posted. I'm home now and looked at the car. You are right, it's the short pump and it is mounted upside down. The valve covers clear and there is no decklid hinge box trimmed. I took a photo to show you the frame rail had not been notched. But, then I noticed upon closer inspection, the frame has been trimmed right under the pump body. As you can see from the pic, there is already a hole through the fender well. This was already done before I bought the car. Sorry about all the leaves and trash in the pic, the car has sat for over 5 years.
The reason I'm interested in an electric water pump is to free up more space in the wheel well for bigger tires. I already have coilovers, so now the lower water pump pulley is the next interference point.

I wouldn't be afraid of Archie' s waterpump drive system. I used it with my small block and it works great. I have 235/45-17's on 8" wide wheels and it clears fine. I do have coil overs and had the hub shaved down on the top pump pulley, just to make sure. Just for insurance, I carry a spare belt, since if it were to break on the road, it might not be readily available. That type water pump is pretty cheap compared to fitting an electric system.
I'm not afraid of the mechanical pump, I drove this car for several years with no water pump problems. I too carried an extra belt just in case. I current have 245-60-15 street tires that never had a problem, but want to run 255-60-15 drag radials eventually (next smaller M/T drag radial is 235). Clearance looks a bit too tight with the current pulley system with bigger tires.

I preferred the original Archie mechanical pump drive system. No need to trust electicity, if its running its pumping. If I remember I used the OEM pump for 57 Chevy 283 pickup....and yes it was mounted upside down. There is a small port that has to be plugged though.
