Has anyone tried to swap in a 2.4 turbo motor and tranny? i figure this would be a good swap since these engines are capable of 500hp on stock internals. Any opinions on this?

The Neon srt-4 engine is a great engine. And so is the rest of the car.
We have had over 300hp in ours damn near since the day we bought it and it has been a great daily driver and is approaching 100k miles. I contemplated going the srt-4 engine route before I bought my 3800sc engine. If I Would have had a srt-4 engine I think I would have went for it.
Theres plenty of guys building rwd Platforms with them now and using megasquirts so anything is possible.
ehhh srt4 while they put out alot ive always found dodge to be expensive you can probably get the same horse power for way less if you go with a ecotech from an ss cobalt or gtp solcist.

Sorry, you saying the neon is a "great" car? No offence, but the neon is a turd! The only thing that makes it worthwhile is the 3 letters that follow its name (SRT)...

Epic Fail. I would never use a Chrysler Motor in a GM, when there is a perfectly good EcoTech that can do the same job, twice as well. Come to think of it, I dont think there is a single Chrysler motor that can do something, that GM hasnt done better. IMHO

Dodge make awesome cars if you don't go over 100k with them. Dodge is the best car you can buy of the show room, but they really don't last, and for some reason they are notorious for burning oil a fairly low miles, if you want a long term investment go with the 3800sc plenty of power, great aftermarket support, and the only parts your going to have to replace after the swap is your tires.

I'm a GM guy so I'd go with the ecotec because I'm familiar with it and I KNOW its a tough little beast. I also would prefer the Fiero to stay GM if GM offers what I want. That said, the srt4 is, by all accounts, a great little engine with awesome potential. As for the viper engine...I think the crank is about the same lenght as the fiero's wheel base. Plus...V10s sound like a pair of tractors with fart cans. Give me a V8 any day...it'll fit, AND it'll sound good. O, a V12 would be cool too, and you could probably shoehorn one in...
tommy i say the viper motor because the only other v10 i know of is made by ford and its a truck motor nothing wrong with that but i dont know a whole lot about it and i dont think it puts out as much power as the viper motor. and ive seen viper motors in fieros before.

That's cool, I'd love to see it. I just don't like V10s. I can DEFINITELY appreciate the engineering to put one in a fiero. They are huge AFAIK... Bigger than the BMW 12s because they are huge bore, huge displacement motors...

Looks like billybad5 lost interest in his question?
no didn't lose interest been at work all day. I personally couldnt do this swap, i cant fabricate. But I did own a 2004 SRT-4 for 3 years, got it brand new and traded it in with 73k on it, never had a single problem. I was just asking about this swap because it's easy to make a lot of power on the 2.4 and you get a stronger tranny. I'm actually getting ready to do a 350 swap in my fiero. One thing i really wonder about this swap is how hard it would be to make it shift properly in a fiero.

i would like to have a V10 from a viper in my fiero. if it would fit. there so wide and long. would have to do some major modifications to the engine bay. it be like that V12 swap that someone is doing. but 400hp from a stock V10 is pretty good. add a turbo or 2 and you got your self a scary ride
i was watching a video of a guy with the new GT40. 550hp or something like that. he took the supercharger off. and added 2 huge turbos. he doubled his power. it was over 1000hp. he couldnt get any traction. kinda got alittle off topic there :P got alittle carryed away there.
my sister has a Neon. and its a piece of junk. its burning oil faster you can fill it up. she did stick one of thos huge coffee can mufflers on it tho. and sounds even more gross it also has alot of electrionic issues. i dont like neons. but i do like there seats tho
