I've seen several that have not had power windows. A GT could be purchased without a wing, but the wing was part of the Formula trim package.

Was JUST looking through my Fiero performace portfolio last night, and in one of the road tests of the '86 GT fastback they specifically stated that the new fastback body style added less that 20lbs to the car. This is likely compared to the '85 GT that had ground effects as well. That being said, the ground effects and slightly larger amount of plastic on the GT CANNOT account for a claimed 300 lbs difference between a GT and a Formula. Frankly, power window motors, sunroof, automatic trans versus manual, etc., likely couldn't account for this huge difference...The transmissions are only about 50 lbs difference, and the sunroof and some power options along with a couple of plastic ground effects panels surely don't make up that 250+ lbs.
In fact, just found one of my spec sheets- it shows an '88 GT at 2,735 lbs and an '88 Formula at 2,679 lbs. I myself have never seen any information that remotely supports a weight difference anywhere near that 300 lb number that started this discussion off???
Just what I have SEEN and READ, so I'm putting it out there.

Sorry, but with all due respect, you are the one that is wrong. I bought a new Formula in 1988, and have owned 6 other Formula's since then. I remember clearly Pontiac's own stats showed a weight difference between a Formula and a GT at 330 pounds. That is a Pontiac number not mine. Also a very similar 300 lb weight difference between a Mustang GT and a Mustang coupe 5.0. All the body cladding adds pounds pure and simple.
Sure you're not looking at the GVWR? I could believe that would be 300# higher for a car with stiffer suspension...

Even if the difference is 300 lbs, it would only matter if you're concerned about those last couple of tenths on the race track. And if that's the case, there are many better options than a Fiero. A modern day Accord or Camry will beat a Fiero. The performance of the Fiero isn't bad by 88 standards, but it's pitiful by today's standards.

Why are we still having the arguement? the OP disappeared because he wasn't even close to right. The reason formulas were lighter was because they were supposed to be less optioned and be the performance cars. But strap on leather, pw, pl, pm, premium sound, automatic etc etc your at most 10lbs less that an GT. Plus GT is eleventy billion times better looking .

For street cars, I don't think a 100 lb. or so difference outweighs a preference in styling, at least not for most. I've owned 2 GTs and simply prefer the looks.
Now I do like the same engine in a car weighing around 700 lbs. less..... :-)

Just found a road test of the Formula in my road test book- it quite specifically states that the weight savings of the Formula BODYWORK over the GT BODYWORK is "scarcely 20 pounds." Just an FYI update.
