This really bugs me. All of a sudden, whenever i get gas, there is a puddle of gas under my car when i fill up. The leak does not seem to come from the tank, but rather from the filler neck itself. How would i go about removing the filler neck and sealing it real well to prevent the gas leak? You can't get to it from underneath the car and i see no need to drop the actual tank either.

I had the same problem. You have to remove the rear clip in order to replace the filler tube. It's not a fun task, but there is a flange around the neck of the tube that sits behind your gas door. The read clip's gotta come off.

On the other hand, if you remove the wheel liner, you may be able to feel where the leak is and do a temp fix with a kit from the auto shop. It's like a putty that mixes with epoxy. You pasically push it into the hole, it hardens, and you fiberglass over it.

The tubes usually rust out at the weld over your air intake where it changes from a larger tube to a smaller diameter.

I had a pinhole in the vent line that runs alongside the fill pipe. I got mine out of my 87 GT without removing the rear clip.

Put the rear of the on stands. Remove the tire, front half of wheelwell liner and take out the air intake water separator.

Take out the fuel filler door "cup" (disconnect cable) and unbolt flange that holds pipes to frame and ground strap.

Disconnect fuel hoses from pipes at fuel tank end.

You'll be playing "Twister" with the pipe, but IT WILL come out. It's even more fun twisting it back in.

Looks like this when it's out

Good to know! I've never know anyone who got it out like that before. This is good news!

Once you get it out, leave the cap on, stand it up and fill it with water to find the hole.
