Has anyone done this? I guess you'd take the fuel filler door/cup off the car and disconnect the hoses at the fuel tank end. Then what? Does the pipe have any other bolts or clamps holding it in, and can the pipe be removed with the bodywork in place? Anyone have pics on how to do this?

I took my tank out last night, didnt see too much as far as clamps holding the bottom in, but I think you might want to take the rubber hose off of the filler tube side from down underneath. I bet the inner fender well will have to come out also. Good luck getting that hose off, i didnt see much of any way to get it, and my car was on a lift.

The rubber hose for the filler tube/tank and vent tube/tank are molded together. Don't try to remove just one or you will rip one of them down to the fabric. While you are removing the filler tube, you might think about replacing the fuel pump, as it won't take much to drop the tank with the hoses off.

The pump is new and the 2-piece hose was replaced recently. I'm aware of all the obvious stuff.

What I need to know is there anything else holding the pipe in? How does the pipe come out?
Through the hole in the fender? Do I just yank on it and maneouver it out??

I removed the pipe recently in my build and once it is disconnected at both ends you swing it up and rotate it.
Eventually you will be able to pull it out of the opening in the firewall and into the engine compartment.
You do not go through the filler hole and nothing else secures it in place.
Mine was a little easier as I removed the return tube first since it was rotten.
This is what I was left with right after I removed it.
3 screws at the filler neck plus a ground strap to remove and remove the 90 degree rubber hose clamp at the other end.

Yay! I got it out, fixed the pinhole in the vent tube, and replaced it. Finally fixed that "gas smell".

It can be pulled out through the wheel well, but I think you need to remove the stock air cleaner tube and water separator in order to do so. It can then be rotated and maneouvered out easily. I don't have those in my car, so it was a snap.

As stated, the pipe is only held by the hoses at the bottom end, and a few bolts at the upper. You need to remove the fuel filler door and "cup" to get at those.

Hey, I'm glad you got it out and fixed. So it was the vent line.
