A good tranny for hooking up would be a getrag out of a W41 equipped Olds Achieva SCX, or Calalis 442,

ITs got a differential that distributes Tq to the wheel with traction vs one without.

Im sure its got lower gears but just skip 1st and BOTH tires will spin.

I would like a reasonable 0-60 time but I am also interested in a good 5th gear. I dont want to be redlining at 80mph.

Sorry to be another threadjacker, but how about header clearance? I've seen many use 3800 FWD headers (TOG, SLP) on 5 speeds but have said they needed to modify the tranny in some way. How was this done? Also, is Lloyd from Fast Fieros going to start using the 2.0 SC 5 Speed trannies? Seems like a better option if it doesn't require a lot of custom parts.

Elroes, the problem is that the crossover pipe on the TOG and SLP headers interferes with the clutch arm on the getrag. In order to solve this, the clutch arm has to be rotated 90 degrees clockwise which means the slave cylinder must also be relocated to clear the crossover pipe. In order to do this you need to create a custom bracket for the slave cylinder and you need to grind down the teeth on the clutch shaft so that the arm can be repositioned, then weld the arm to the shaft so that it won't move after it's setup. You can look at my build thread to see pictures of what I've done so far (fastfieros.com also has a project that you can see what he did with it).

I just got off the phone with these folks.
Their Getrag prices are quite good. $675 + $250 core charge.

The down side is that they seemed to be a bit confused about the differences between the Fiero version and the FWD version.
We finally got past that.
Then they informed me that this transmission was available with 4 (four?! ) different FD ratios (their chart didn't specify what those ratios were), and that they could not guarantee what ratio I would get.
Hmmm...

If there were 12 cars that left the factory with that diff, I would be surprised. They are hen's teeth. They were available through the aftermarket, AFAIK.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but after doing a ton of research into it (I wanted it for the engine and tranny too), only the racing SCX's had the torsen differentials, not all of the W41s. Besides, the engine is a Quad4 and we all know that wont fit without an adaptor. However, someone did mention a Quad4 adaptor (or was it for an Ecotech?) that GM Performance makes.
