I have found out that the power is not coming in and when I put power to it from another source the fan works (through the switch in the console, just added a live wire to where the power should be from).

my stereo also died a ight or two ago and I found out that the power for it is also lost ( the battery connection, the lead to the ignition is working fine when I put the key in and turn it). -= clarification: actually i am reading 0.05volts where it should be 12volts=-

I then checked the fusebox and the "battery" lead is also not getting any power (0.05volts again). I was going to run another power wire to the stereo and fan but now I can't and I dont want to splice the headlight power cable because it draws a lot of power and I don't think piggybacking on top of that would be wise.

any ideas what is causing this loss of power?
OR
suggestions on where I should splice a power cable from?

***epiphany edit: I think i will try to splice power from the cigarette lighter if its 12 volt***

and my cigarette lighter is also at 0.05volts, it would make sense that the problem is outside the cockpit and the wiring in the engine compartment isn't working correctly I am guessing.

wow this has been a painstaking process.

also i just found that one of the vacuum lines is broken. anyone know where they all go to or where a schematic of them can be found? i dont have a haynes or chilton manual yet, are they in there?

thanks

I've found the Haynes manual has good schematics (in the back).

thanks for the links!! reading through them now.

i went back to the car today to try to figure things out and the power to the radio from the battery is at 11.5volts and so is the cigarette lighter!!?!?! the hvac power is still non-existent. try tracking a gremlin that isn't always there.... eek

if i splice up the ignition wire from the radio so that the hvac fan control gets power when the ignition is turned on, the fan can work, but it is always on. is the fan supposed to turn off when the Off button is pushed or does it just close all the vents?

well thanks for the links 3800, part of the problem was a blown BAT fuse. what a weird weird electrical setup. I am a computer engineer and I never thought something that made it into production would be that shoddily built... oh well.

now time to read through the manual to look for the hvac problem.

THANKS!
