My friend noticed oil stain on exhaust of his 88 2.8 after he changed the distributor. Traced the leak back to the distributor .what can we do to fix this?

Yup. Had the same problem and installed Rodneys distributor O-ring and that solved the oil leak.

Make sure when re-installing the distributer to change the o-ring and when doing so, lub it with oil in order to get a good seal.

Just rebuilt my distributor today. It was easier than i thought.

Ditto, Mine from auto-zone was a couple bucks , you may want to re-check it before install, so you don`t have to do it again, the distributor has to come out , just a quick note, you may want to mark & line everything else up now, so you don`t have a timing issue...Hope this helps..

color has nothing to do with it. I have a whole assortment box of buna-n o rings, all are black.

hmmm, I quess you misunderstood me. they can make any oring any color, from any material. just because ti is black does not mean it is not a buna-n.
My box of vitron seals are also black.

that;s why you need to keep those things organized, you can;t tell by looking at them.

gm likely made the color change to make it obvious that the oldblack rubber was replaced in stock.
