I have the possibility of picking up a getrag transmission. The seller doesn't know if it is a 4 or 5 speed.

Here are the numbers that are on it. 5ZH 6152H IX14A56 and 94141210.

Can someone tell me if this a 4 or 5 speed?

Can't help you via the ID numbers, but if the seller is willing to grab a hold of the linkage and pretend that they're a couple of cables, it's easy to find out.

The linkage will have either 5 or 6 distinct positions, not counting neutral.

5 positions = 4-speed (1 through 4 + reverse)
6 positions = 5-speed (1 through 5 + reverse)

Thanks Jack, that thread helped ID the trans as an Isuzu! + for you!
Next question is did Isuzu make a 4 speed or only 5 speeds?

Muncie built the 4 speed, Isuzu and Getrag built the 5 speed.

Technically, Getrag only designed the 5 speed, it was built in the same Muncie, Indiana transmission plant as the 4 speed transmissions.
