I have searched, but I must not be putting the right thing to findany thread's that will help/explain HOW to change the color from 'amber' to 'blue'... I remember something about painting over the 'amber'... with a different color like 'blue'... My JVC cd deck is blue so I need to change all the toggle switches that are 'amber' now to 'blue' toggle switches.... I have the switches, and while I have the dash abart doing the switches, I would like to do this as well at the same time since "SmoothGT" is my daily driver I need to hurry...lol
Thankjs for any help and "+" will be handed out on a regular basis...

They have bulb covers at wal-mart that are in different covers, blue being one of them. They come in different sizes for the different sized bulbs. They are in the lighting section near the fog lights and wiring stuff in automotive. All you do is slip the bulb covers over the bulbs. I've never had the dash apart that far yet, so I'm not sure what you would have to modify to get the blue to show up. But it stands to reason that once you have the blue light from teh bulb covers, you could just paint the amber stuff, to keep it from bleeding in.

I updated mine to blue one time. I painted white over all the orange, then fluorescent blue model paint over the white(to help it glow). The dash lights were blue, but they were quite a bit more dim than the orange. I haven't tried any other colors, but it seems the blue didn't reflect the light enough to make me happy. This was with the offset gauges. If I were to do that again, I wouldn't. The backlit gauges may be a bit different though.

I was going to order bulblight covers but at the store they advised not to use them on lights that are continiously on... So I ordered colored glassbulbs. the red ones go into the Altezza's and the blue ones under the dash...if they work well I might order more for the rest of the interior.

What about the aux. gauges..?? Where do I paint those to make them blue as well..?? I am off the rest of the week, so I would like to get this done while I am off... Thanks for any help!
what about the heater controls & switches & stuff? cant they be changed also? it seems the dash is easy enough, but the other stuff....?
Yes, ALL the light's are are lit up when I hit the switch will be changed of course... I had planned on doing those but, just have'nt gotten that far...lol You should know by now I take my sweet time when I am doing something. Then I will probablly re-do it 3-4 times for that matter... I will stay with it until I am happy with the result's, or i will re-do it again!
Thanks for bringing the HVAC up so other's will think about it as well... "+" to you! AGAIN!!

Sorry, no pics of the dash lighting when it was blue. I tried but my camera wouldn't catch it. They were too dim for my camera to pick em up. The orange is bright enough for the camera though. Maybe Buddycraigg's way will work better though and being that yours are backlit.
On the HVAC controls, the plastic will pull off if you are careful. You would then need to put the plastic into a scanner and scan it and change the colors that way. At least that was my plan last year when I was doing the blue thing.

I'll try and explain. The sliders that move left and right will pull off. After those are pulled off there is the plastic that the a/c labels are printed on. If you go to the corner and use something sharp, flat, and small that plastic will pry up. Get a corner up and carefully lift and the plastic label will come off. I hope this helps. Holler back if you need.

My plan was to scan it into the computer and edit it in a photo editing program. Then reprint it with new colors onto transparency film-kinda like you would do if you were to make your own new gauge overlays.

That sound's like a good plan... But.. What am I supposed to do ..?? I don't know how to do all of that OR have the stuff to do it!
That's Great Now, I am going to have a JVC CD Deck That light's up Blue and a Speedo/Tach cluster and Aux. gauges that are Blue and an HVAC that is ORANGE.... I wish I would'nt have started this project now!!

I dunno what to do next. Hang in there with the orange HVAC right now. That is easy to change later. The gauges are the hard part. I don't have a printer myself right now. I'd like to play around with it if I get a chance. Maybe someone else on the forum has made it further on the HVAC color change than I have.

Or you could just do like mine. My HVAC controls don't even light up. Never have since I've had the car. Not really that big of a deal, I know which button is which in the dark.
Ohh, If you knew what you were talking about , That would make me stop crying..lol That FACE of the HVAC control's.. Have the ORANGE printed/built in to the plastic face itself... You C A N N O T just put in a colored bulb KNOTHEAD!!!
.
.
Has ANYONE changed the color of the HVAC to a different color's??

You my have seen the posting of my 4-gauge center unit. Well with them being a bit high, I thought it best to use red lamps. I just change the rest of the stock gauges to red also, from Auto Zone and they look real nice. I went with red because it dosen't mess up your night vision like other colors, that's why the use it on aircraft carriers and such.
Steve, until the HVAC lettering can be changed, I believe you can go ahead and change the color of the lights in the buttons. If I remember right there is clear plastic that carries the light from the bulbs. The clear plastic is painted neon orange underneath white-to reflect into the buttons. You could lightly sand that paint off then paint the colors you plan on using. Remember, I have not done this, but this is how I was going to go about it.

I belive you would need a can of flouresent blue paint (a chaulkey looking blue).Ordinary blue paint may not work. For the back side of the gage plate (currently a flouresent orange, and reflects the light to give it an orange glow)....

Thanks I will look into that.. That just might work for the button's! Yes, you are right about the clear plastic piece that 'carries' the light to the rest of the button's!
007... It does'nt work like that.. Thanks though!
