Just A Few Weeks Ago ..I Stripped Down My Engine To The Just The Block ...Heads Off And All

Now My Question Is When Putting The Heads Back On ....In The Manual (Haynes) To Turn Them One And A Half Turns ...After You Have Them Tight In Place

It Just Feels Very Tight Is One And A Half To Much??????

The Haynes manual is wrong. When I built my engine I turned mine 1/2 turn after zero lash. (This is what the instruction sheet from the cam company stated) Others have done 3/4 of a turn. 1 1/2 is too much.

sounds like your talking about the valve lash.
re-read what it says. its not 1-1/2 turns after they are tight, it is 1-1/2 turns after you reach zero lash. and some people will say this is to much also. theres also directions on which ones to adjust and when to adjust them. some people will go as little as a 1/2 turn, most people are around 3/4 to 1 turn, and some go the full 1-1/2. fortunatly, thats the whole point of hydraulic lifters, is they take up the slack. I personally like 1 turn after zero lash. it all depends on how accuratly you can find zero lash.
good luck

edit: dont forget to put the intake manifold gasket in BEFORE you lash the valves

Oreif, do you suggest going back in after a few weeks to recheck valve lash?

I removed the heads on my 86 GT (Broken manifold bolts). I too was unsure of the lash adjustment. This link is my post from about 4 or 5 months ago. Alot of good info in it for lash adjustment!

I just did mine last week and I went 3/4 turn after zero lash. The valve train is quiet.
I'm not sure though if you are wanting valve lash or if you are talking about torquing the head bolts to yield? Which is it?
