Just out of curiosity, Did you ever check the throttle cable? The one that is hooked to the gas pedal. Over time these can stretch. Have someone floor the gas pedal and look in the TB and see if the throttle plate is full open. You could also have someone step on the pedal then manually see if you can open it more.
I did check the throttle cable and i re-checked it again last night. It is good and tight and i am reaching full throttle.
thanks for the help -Phil

just for the fun of it I tried my first 0-60 test. I hit the stop watch just a hair before a stomped the pedal down. The rpm's in first went to approx 5500 and was up in that area when I hit 60mph. It felt like fairly strong acceleration. When I looked at the stopwatch it was 11.0 seconds. This was at 1150 feet above sea level and approx 110 degrees OAT. I would guess humidity about 50 percent. The car runs fine, no misses or flat spots. 100K miles on engine. New cat, plugs, wires, ign coil, module, pickup coil, cap, rotor, injectors, O2 sensor and MAP. Recent compression check, all within 10percent, don't remember the psi values at the moment. 86 GT auto
any thoughts?

I did an impromptu 0-60mph run yesterday morning on the way to work at the onramp to the freeway. It's slightly uphill, and I had my hands full with steering wheel, watch, and shifter (it's a 5spd Formula), and my time was 9.4 seconds. I have to shift carefully since I'm *still* having problems with the clutch hydraulics, but even if I could shift fast I doubt it would take off more than half a second. Oh, and I have about 100 pounds of tools in the trunk, that probably slowed me down a bit as well.
My ECM needs tuning since I made a bunch of changes in my engine last year.

My 85 2.8l auto does 0-60 in low 11s. i have no cat, egr tube is remouved and bocked off, apc cold air intake, vacume line from EGR valve is remouved and blocked off, car has new spark plug cables, rotor, distributor cap, o2 sensor, temp sensors, IAC valve. engine has 215000KMS on it. TV cable and throttle cable are good. shift from first to second is at 5600rmp with pedal on the floor.
with the pedal on the floor i can still open the throttle body about a 1/4 inch. My ECM sends a TPS code every now and then.
does this sound a little slower than it should be? any ideas?

You could try and adjust it, but I doubt there is that much adjustment in the cable.
A 1/4" from wide open cut's down the CFM's of the throttle body. Especially at the higher RPM's. By replacing/adjusting the cable you will lower your 0-60 times.
