Trying to install a newer 21 pin UP3 CD player in my car. I have the head unit connected with the Delco 16140051 harness adapter. When the power is turned on to the radio the factory Fiero sub just gives feedback I remember reading there is a modification that needs to be done to the harness, what modification do I need to do? *I tried a search but came up empty.

Hank,

Here's the thread you were looking for.... https://www.fiero.nl/forum/Archives/Archive-000001/HTML/20010418-2-005767.html

Bottom line is you can't power the subwoofer amp from the switched +12v (coming out of the radio) that is on when the radio is on. The fix is to power the sub amp from the switched power that feeds the radio. The power coming out of the radio is OK for a power antenna or such.

Help me out here I'm a little slow, lol. The two pink wires are on what harness? the car, the sub, or the UP3 adapter? The white wire is on what harness as well, sub or UP3?

I hate splicing wires I think it will lead to future wiring problems, the less splicing the better

Hank,

The wiring modification is actually made to the UP3 adapter cable (NOT the fiero wiring harness).

Read Seanh's post carefully and look at the picture. When you plug the adapter cable into the Fiero harness, the wire (in the adapter cable)that is physically connected to the pink wires (in the fiero harness) is the wire you cut. Cut it about in the middle of the adapter harness. Tape the end that runs to the new UP3 radio. The other end should be spliced to the "12V ignition" wire (this wire is physically connected to the yellow wire in the fiero harness)

I'm not identifying the color of the wires in the adapter harness because the MAY NOT agree with the GM convention of yellow for 12V ignition and pink for power to antenna.
