Would any one know what GM oem cd players will fit into the Fiero, preferbly close to plug and play. There's a picture in the forum of a car with a 91 Firebird CD that looks like it was made for the dash....

My 97 Transport has a sweetass CD player in it...been thinking maybe the wife doesn't need it haha. The lighting is the perfect color of course. I'm not sure of the plug-n-play though.
I don't believe there is a plug and play out there, but there are adapters. I put a CD changer in a 92 Grand Am and the antenna wire was different size, but an adaptor was easy to find. In this case I didn't replace the radio. I do think since 88 or 90 they did change the plug in the back of the radio, and if an adaptor isn't available, one couldn't be to tough to build? I have also had my eye on my wifes 97 Blazer, it has a nice stock CD player that looks like it would fit right in the hole. I don't remember the Olds Blazer wannabe, but looked at one of them a couple weeks ago and its radio had both CD and Cassette? Have Fun Just some thoughts

Almost any GM CD/tape player will work. As long as it's DIN and a half it will fit perfectly. If you're looking for a good, reasonably cheap refurbished unit, try this: www.aatechnologies.com

I've just finished installing a 1998 (or 99?) AM/FM CD player out of a TransAm. It has the "Monsoon" logo on the top left. I bought an adapter from: http://www.newellelectronics.com/
I paid $21.00 (including shipping) and it also came with the antenna adapter. This radio is ALMOST, a bolt in upgrade. The radio is a little longer and requires the removal of the rear mounting tab and a little of filing of brackets on the radio.
The one thing I need to work out is how to make my factory sub-woofer work. I pluged the adapter harness into the subwoofer harness and it just kept making a thumping noise. Anyone with any ideas on what to do to fix it?

I don't think that's quite what I had in mind. I'm using a late model OEM radio with a harness adapter. To my knowlege, there is no relay involved. What I need to know is which pin-out on the new OEM plug corresponds to the sub-woofer pin-out of the original radio.

Look in the factory harness, there should be a single pin-out with 2 pink wires comming out of one hole. There is an easier way to hook it up then the relay system. Simply cut the wire on the aftermarket harness/adapter the goes to ant. lead, and hook it into the ingition on wire, that will ture the sub on whenever the ignition is on, but who tures there stereo off alot really?

Perhaps this pict will help you. The black harness you see to he right is the side that will plug into your factory harness on your car. If this harness is labeled with letters, on the plastic above to wires going into it, you should cut the wire into letter "E" about 2-3 inchs above the harness, then make a splice into letter "F" and tape the connections. In the following pict. your would cut the blue wire (bottem arrow) and hook it into the red wire (top arrow), once you do this be sure to tape off the other end of the blue or "E" wire so it wont short. Email me at sean@kdsi.net if you have anymore problems or dont understand somthing. Sorry about the size and quality of this pict. I am on a crappy computer.
P.S. Probally should have said this more clearly, but just to make sure: Cut the blue wire in half tape off the end comming from the cd player and hook the other end into the red wire. Do not cut the RED in half, just bare the wire and wrap the blue wire around it several times, and tape good. Only cut the wire in the aftermarket harness you purchased. This is a lot eaisier to replace then your factory or cd player wiring.

mrfixit58, here is the simple fix, the two pink wires running from the stock sub-woofer amp are for a mute circuit and for power -- splice the two pink wires to the yellow wire from the car's wiring harness or to the white wire from the radio adapter - that is an accessory wire which will run the sub amp when the key is in the accy or on position -- the reason for the "beating heart" noise is because there is not enough power from the power antenna output to drive the amp (it is only a 15 watt amp in the factory sub system. - now, to answer your question, the white wire on the new adapter corresponds to the yelklow wire on the car wiring harness - there is really no connection for the two pink wires other than what I have mentioned.....
I installed an am/fm/cd unit from a '98 Grand Am and wired it to the factory sub system - it even says "Pontiac" on the front of it!
By the way, if anyone buys a system with "theftlock" and has problems unlocking it, call us here at the Fiero Shop (1-510-233-4376), more than likely we can help unlock it........

oh, hrocker, the factory wiring harness uses a 12-pin plug, that was changed in '89 to the newer 21-pin plug and at the same time they changed the antenna lead-in to a smaller size -- the info here is correct, you will need the adapter kit but it is close to "plug-and-play" unless you plan on wiring the factory sub system in which case you can read my previous post - either way, it is simple and there are always people on here who will help you.

I have the Pontiac up3. It lights up red and looks at home in my fiero. I got it from this site http://www.aatechnologies.com/pmyradios/pontiac/16205302.asp I had to get a $12.00 adapter from GM but with the adapter it is completely plug and play without perf. sound.
