leishmaniosis has been around for quite some time, even here in the US occasionally and is just now moving into Canada but almost all cases in North America came from people that had traveled to and from South and Central America, Asia and parts of Africa.
There are 2 different types, one is cutaneous, (skin sores) the other internal or visceral. There have been a few cases of cutaneous leishmaniosis in the US but no visceral cases.

There have been only about80 documented (reported) cases of it in humans in the US since 2006 with most of those being in Tx and Oklahoma.
It's not a federally mandated or reportable illness but it is within the State of Texas Dept of Health.
