19 deaths in Washington State.

136 confirmed cases.

13.9% death rate at the moment.

Earlier I spoke of a 15% death rate. I sure hope that I am very wrong.

Now we have people bringing up Biblical End Times Prophecies.

Pestilance:

Earth Quakes:

Plagues of Locust:

The rhetoric is getting very heated and the vulnerable empty heads are ready to be filled with whatever pap that the media wants to perpetuate. They have already scared the bejesus out of the stock market. How soon before there will be people holed up in their houses with guns at the ready?

I believe you are extremely high on that death rate. Especially here in the US. The only people who are getting tested are those that are really sick. And of those a larger number will die. Simply because these are mostly elderly people with other vulnerabilities. Those that are young probably don't even know that they have the virus, so never get checked. Across the world with a larger sampling of people it is only showing up at 2 to 3%. And that has the same bias as I mentioned before of only checking on those who are very sick. There is not going to be a way to really understand the overall death rate until the current crisis is over.

Probably next week.

With some of the forums I read sometimes, I'm amazed the end times stuff hasn't started a lot earlier. Usually a good thunderstorm is all that's needed to set it off.

I found an interesting article on another site. It talks about the Covid-19 virus and how it sheds from the patients. It is encouraging in some ways since as the patient gets sicker, the viral shedding is still there, but the virus shed is not as viable therefore not as communicable.

On the other hand when the patient first gets the virus is when the virus sheds fastest and is the most communicable.

I take from that as the virus processes through the patient the communicability of the virus goes down except in the worst cases. And that to me is not a good thing. Since without even knowing you have the virus you are highly contagious.

NO, Coronavirus is not the flu!

It is a completely different pathogen and a completely different family of virus.
The only thing the 2 have in common are the symptoms.
These are the FDA approved prescription flu treatment medications:

oseltamivir phosphate (available as a generic version or under the trade name Tamiflu®),
zanamivir (trade name Relenza®)
peramivir (trade name Rapivab®), and.
baloxavir marboxil (trade name Xofluza®

Do they work for corona virus?
They aren't sure.

Well I learned something. I thought this was a new flu strain. COVID-19 is related to SARS and MERS (which I too thought was a flu strain).

https://www.mayoclinic.org/...-causes/syc-20479963

"Signs and symptoms of COVID-19 may appear two to 14 days after exposure and can include:

Fever
Cough
Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing"

Notice it doesn't say runny nose. It's also thought to be spread by airborne water droplets from coughing/sneezing. It's unknown if masks help prevent contracting it but should help prevent spreading it if you already have the disease.

On a side note I go back to work tomorrow. Shanghai to Guangzhou, then the next day to Chang Mai, Thailand and back to Guangzhou.

I believe so also. I am only posting numbers related to Washington State. They went up since earlier. 22 have passed with 162 infected.

Not scaring anyone either. More die from the flu.

It has been correctly stated here that many millions of people worldwide catch the flu every year and tens of thousands die from it annually in the US alone. It happens here and around the world but is looked upon as typical. These numbers don't seem to faze anyone in authority, (although they might come as quite a surprise to those unaware since it rarely makes the news).

I've been asking myself since the early days of the Chinese COVID-19 outbreak, what made this particular virus any different from any typical flu outbreak in terms of total infected and total fatalities? For example, what in the world would compel the Chinese leadership to quarantine 60 million, and then 600 million, citizens and risk crashing their economy in those early days when there were no more than maybe a few thousand cases and maybe a few hundred total (reported) fatalities. Compare that to the many tens of thousands, or more, Chinese that have died in years prior from nothing more than the annual flu.

But since COVID-19 Chinese factories and businesses large and small have been closed. Manufacturing and supply streams have been dramatically interrupted. The streets are literally deserted and many large cities look like ghost towns. Many people are forced to remain in their homes and travel has been completely shut down into and out of these huge quarantine zones in an attempt to stem the tide. This was even before the (reported) fatalities started ramping up. Even while there was only a mere handful of international cases reported the Chinese were exercising their dictatorial powers in far reaching and economically damaging ways. The costs in China (and the world ) have been enormous. This level of control has never been seen before, not even in the days of SARS and MERS, both of which have been compared statistically to COVID-19, and even though there were far fewer cases and they are harder to catch, they have been found to have a much, much higher percentage of mortality.

The leadership of the Chinese Communist Party doesn't really give a damn about the citizenry. They are far more concerned with maintaining the power of the Party and the all important achievement of state mandated performance and growth numbers. If a few thousand, or even many tens of thousands, are at risk I believe they would consider that acceptable, and even typical. Certainly nothing to warrant the extremes that we are witnessing with regards to the shocking loss of economic output that they suddenly seem willing to accept.

Never let a crisis go to waste.

Crash the supply chain, wreck the economy, get Trump defeated, get rid of tarriffs.......

Make it all back in six months....
