I got this weird issue where when I want to put my headlights up I have to hold the switch at the halfway mark if I push it any further the lights will turn on but the motors will not move if I hold it halfway only the left headlight comes up if I get out of the car and turn the knob on the right headlight it will come up does anyone know what could be going on I have already replaced the headlight switch and that did not fix it

you might have some motor problems if they are the original 86 motors. push down on the not working ones knob and it may work for a second or probably not

Member John W. Tilford had a headlight raise problem and posted three threads attempting to solve the issue.

Read his long headlight story which finally solved the problem by installing a new motor....

here's the trouble shooting steps I followed to diagnose my 84 headlights with similar issues.

mine ended up being the isolation relay. kind of pricey for just a relay, but the head lights are worth it to me. I believe Rodney is the only one who sells them.

I just replaced my isolation relay months ago I doubt it is broken I also replaced the left side motor relay I can switch it to the right and see if that fixes anything but I'm still not sure about holding the headlight switch halfway

Ok so I switched the motor control relay left to right and vise versa now they both come up but I still have to hold the switch half way

guess you had a bad connection on one of the relays. as for the switch im thinking they made it wrong or one of your wires is being flaky

I bought a new switch as well and I'd didn't change anything

I despise electrical issues
