88 Fieros use a 7802-11 alternator.

High Amp alt's doesn't make a lot more power at idle, worse for people w/ "Power Pulley" BS. Often you only get advertise peak power driving on the highway even w/ OE pulleys.
If you think you need high amp "mod's" note that many need more space to mount them w/ external parts on them etc. and why some won't fit in OE locations of a lot of cars. "Shoe horn" to make them fit may see to work but often makes them to run way hot and quickly fries.
"Big Sound" systems often need capacitors or can wreck any alt and even the battery. Rest of car often hates "Big Sound" systems that hammers the electrics too.

Thanks Ogre. I had a short in my cigarette lighter light and it took some time to find. Now my battery needle is just south of mid deflection with the AC on at cruise. The alternator just can't keep up any more. It's a PepBoys reman. Shes a gonner.

What happens if you give the car some gas to raise the idle RPM?
A stock Fiero is too complex and electronified to adjust its idle by simply turning the idle screw (not generally recommended), but you could have a custom chip for the ECM with an idle that is perhaps 100 or 200 RPM above normal.

"not generally recommended" because creates more problems, more so w/ AT cars. And that's "dumb" powertrains w/o any electronics.
AT cars w/ high idle even affects braking many times.

The car has a fast idle when the engine is cold, and it is driveable in that condition, so there should be some wiggle room to increase the idle RPM when the engine is at operating temperature.
