3800 NA to 3800SC swap (Page 1/1)

Hello all. I'll make this short. I'm am about to acquire an 88 that had a 3800SC in it already. The motor blew up and was swapped with a 3800NA. My question is what all I will have to do to put another 3800SC series II back into the car. I can get my hands on one as soon as I get the 88. Thank you.

The series II 3800SC should bolt right in but you may have to adjust a few connections. The harness should be exactly the same but if it is not already there you will also need to add the wire on the harness for the boost bypass solenoid. Depending on if it was changed or not, the PCM program may or may not need some slight reprogramming. It is also possible to do a top end swap to the N/A engine (with some retuning) and use the SC intake, supercharger, fuel rail and injectors but IMO boosting the N/A engine that has higher compression is not the best route.

Series 2 to Series 2 should be mostly compatible. Here are the differences I can think of:

Harness:
Some of the wiring may need to be extended.

MAP sensor is a different plug and some of the locations for the plugs
3800sc https://zzperformance.com/p.../l67-map-sensor-plug
3800na https://cdn2.bigcommerce.co...00.1280.1280.JPG?c=2

Mounts:
Same

Exhaust:
Same depending on the diameter of the pipe. If it was built narrow for the N/A, you may want to rebuild it from the manifold to the muffler with 3" so it isn't a choke point.

Axles:
If the 3800n/a has the 4T65-E and the 3800sc has the 4T65-HD, you are going to have to build axles. If you have a manual transmission then it is the same.
Edit: I suppose you could bolt the 4T65-E to the 3800sc and keep the axles.

PCM:
Need a different program

Fuel Pump:
I would assume that you are good here if you used something bigger.

Use a series 3 map , have gear ratios changed In pcm for the 4t65e good to go.. depending on year of n/a. Around 01 they went to the multec 2 injectors on the n/a .. you can buy adaptors or change connectors if needed.. bbv solenoid doesn't need to be wired in.
Is pretty straight forward swap.
