A little late now... but it would've been best to have kept the balls with their original rocker.

So, I'm assuming these can be used with the stock 2.8 and 3.4 push rod engines? Any other mods that should be used with them, like springs?

I installed roller-tip 1.6 rockers on my Formula. No other valve train components are required to be changed as long as the factory cam has been retained.
However, I would strongly advise the exhaust manifolds at least be ported to get rid of the ridiculous metal restrictions left in place by Pontiac. The exhaust cross-over pipe could be modified and improved as well. It's all about flow.

I do plan on porting the manifolds. I was told there is a 30% restriction in them to keep them quiet.

I suspect they were made that way simply to keep production costs down... but yes, it certainly changes the tone of the factory exhaust (for the better) when the manifolds are ported.
If you haven't already seen This thread, you might wish to give it a peek. I describe a few procedures that you might find helpful with the job you're about to do. I also posted a few videos there with good quality audio which demonstrate what the exhaust system sounds like with ported manifolds and 1.6 rockers.

1963 VW beetle exhaust manifold gaskets fit like a charm BTW.
