Well, I may have gotten this image thing straightened out, lets see, then I'll ad some more and tell you what's going on. Some of you may have seen this in the 'General' section. I think this is where it should be.
Here's another one[This message has been edited by FX (edited 04-29-2019).]

Here you can see the bolt that the nut is coming off...[This message has been edited by FX (edited 04-29-2019).]

Am I doing this right Patrick, starting a 'reply' post to get more pictures in, or is there a way to do it on one post?

Here's what doesn't look like the Getrag.

And another one...
Now, what's happening is hard shifting, especially into reverse, even if I go up into 5th before reverse. If it wasn't a hydraulic clutch I would think the clutch is dragging. I wonder if the problem could just be that loose bolt. It looks like it has to do with side to side movement. I will of course install another washer inside that bracket at the head of the loose bolt, and snug it all up with some blue thread lock. I need to know now how to properly adjust the linkage/cables. My Clymer. the Pontiac service manual, and the dreaded Haynes, that I hate, all go about it differently. Illustrations are very poor, and there is mention of pushing a drill bit through something up front then adjusting the cable......So, I'm sure someone out there can help me get it adjusted. Nothing looks broke in the shift mech. up front, although the po did say he took it in because something was broke. I will take it back to the shop that fixed it , and find out what they did. He thinks it was welded somewhere...
Patrick, you've created a monster, Thank you... Bob

No need for a new post with every image. Click EDIT on my post to see how I've done it (with the Enter key used between each image and text).
By the way... the select cable coming up from the bottom indicates that this is indeed a Getrag. And because it sticks straight up, water gets in there, corrodes the inside of the cable... and makes it difficult to move the shifter from side to side, especially in freezing weather.[This message has been edited by Patrick (edited 04-29-2019).]

Okay, I'll try that next time Patrick. In the first picture here where the loose bolt is, does that washer stay inside the bracket, or outside on the bolt head. If outside on that end, and one inside on the other end that would move the shifter rearward. maybe that's a problem....Okay, Getrag it is. I store the car in the winter, Tonawanda NY, just north of Buffalo. I drive it very little in the rain, but I'll keep that cable lubed often with something like WD40, that may be my problem, or part of it anyway....You've been a very big help Patrick, thanks. I posted this in the first thread you started...
Try snugging up that loose bolt and see if that tightens things up. If the shifter mechanism is loose and worn, you may need a rebuild kit. http://rodneydickman.com/ca...h=41&products_id=170
In the meantime, you can try adjusting the shift cable - nothing to adjust on select cable. See here: http://www.fiero.nl/forum/Forum2/HTML/142402.html
