you could also use force induction (turbo, supercharger)

who cares if a high lift demands stiffer springs that will eat the cam?
you may lose a few hp over the period of 50,000 to 100,000 miles from a freshly rebuilt engine.
besides owners manual suggests an engine rebuild/overhaul around 100,000 miles anyways. (you said you were rich right?)

if you go naturally aspirated I would recommend THIS off the shelf cam. with 1.52 roller rockers, also roller timing chain from cloyes.

also, there was a performance 2.8 guide out there somewhere, a properly prepped engine fetched 230hp carbuerated.
find it and read! (I lost my copy)

Also important is the choice of oil, i use 15w-40 for diesel engines. has the zinc*

Id get bigger valves, not stock matierals, use titanium?
get at least a 3 angle valve job.

long-tube equal length headers.

hardened fasteners, MLS head gaskets

higher compression hyperutectic pistons? (if not forced induction, otherwise forged)

better crank, eagle cast steel crank? also connecting rods.

for the love and sake of better fuel atomization, get some new style injectors. accel 15lb?

fuel pressure regulator, with programmable ecm so you can actually tune and do whatever you want.

power pulley setup with a higher amp alternator.

I forgot what the falconer intake looked like I was thinking it was only the lower intake... ARP rod bolts and head studs too for high rpm running

I have a few points you may want to consider:

-- Those Falconer heads probably have work done to the combustion chambers. That means the combustion chamber volume will be different (bigger). With stock pistons, this will lower your compression ratio. I would suggest measuring the combustion chamber volume, and getting custom pistons to match.

-- If you're really building "the ultimate 2.8", you will need to beef up the bottom end. This means cross-drilling the crankshaft oil passages for better oiling, and polishing / shot-peening the rods. I would also suggest a high volume oil pump.

-- The Crane H260 camshaft is too mild for this build. Also, putting 1.6:1 rockers on it may not give you the duration and overlap you will need. So I would suggest a more aggressive camshaft.

Just curious but why are you guys recommending off the shelf cams? Surely there are custom grinds out there that will yield better results and they aren't much more expensive at all. Since this is a no expense spared build apparently.

Good luck!

If you are that concerned with keeping the number matching wouldn't you want to keep the car as original as possible. Might I suggest leaving that car along and picking up another one to tinker with? You could get a lot further without all these restrictions you've put up.

I am building it because it is the car i want to own lol. Cant explain it anymore. I want a 1988 fiero gt with a fully decked out original motor. I dont like swaps i never have and probably wont ever like them. The only swap i plan is a SD 4 into my Indy Fiero for obvious reasons. Other than that i wamt my 2.8 with all the bells and whistles. If i ever find a decent priced original 1988 cjb beechwood that will be the car i dont touch.

No more explaining.

I like the idea of a custom cam grind. There is a race shop around here that has experience buildong these motors. I think the plan is to do the heads up with ti valves 1.52 rockers racing springs eagle crank my forged connecting rods custom flattop pistons arp hardware anywhere possible go over the oiling system power pulley upgraded cam chain my falconer lower and upper intake manifolds and anything else i can find for it.

Any suggestions on the electronic fuel injection setup....anyone have custom ecu preferance.

7730 ecm with some sort of hookup that takes place of the prom, where you can tune on a laptop while driving

I hope you dont plan on putting many miles on TI valvetrain parts.
DarcyJL MAR 24, 03:06 PM
No not alot at all...i may be disregarding the ti valves not sure yet though.
