I added this to my 85GT 3.4 transplant and have some full kits or just brackets available.
Didn't want to have to ever mess with belt problems like many have had. I never wanted to have to get my hands in to tighten the belt ever again.

All 3/16 steel construction.
The Alt. distance is set by the bracket for the belt listed below.
Website information with install instructions and pricing is listed below.

You can purchase just a bracket and then get your own new or used tensioner and belt or I have full kits available most of the time.
The tensioners can be found used on many cars or if you buy a new just get one that fits a 96 Grand Prix 3100 as well as a lot of other GM's.
The belt is a Gates K050450 $20+ at Oreilly's.
If you have an underdrive pulley or anything custom you will have to size your belt as needed. Some have done this already.

Yes thanks I know about Rodney's but I wanted a spring tensioner that didn't require moving the Alt.
This way the Alt. is set in place and never has to move as well as has extra support.
You also can change the belt with just a 3/8 ratchet pulling the tensioner rearward and removing the belt.

im ganna save this thread, in the next couple months when i do my 3.4, ill prob want one, a spring tensioner would be great, help stop the damn squeling belt after it rains.

I would be interested in one...let me know what you come up with.

I'm interested in the bracket. Do you have any photos or info on it?

You see, several months ago I also built a belt tensioner setup ( build thread ). But the mounting bracket that I built didn't last very long. I'm not looking forward to building another one.

Here is the new improved version of the bracket. Should have the rest of them done over the weekend.
This model is made with 3/16 steel (first model was 1/8).



Installation would go like this.

Alt. postion is set and never has to be changed again. Never have to adjust your belt tension again. Replace your belt in a couple minutes. Never have it squeal again. Don't overload you bearing due to overtightening.

Hey everyone thanks for the comments.

I tried to go into this slowly not knowing how excited people might get about these.

I'm overwhelmed with the response.

I have several orders going out this week and more request already have been made.

I will be spending time in the garage this weekend producing more but currently am making about 5 a week unless it's really cold. (no heat in the garage I make these in.)


I'd like to thank "TG oreiF 8891" on the tip for the tensioner price. Advanced Auto also has the Goodyear brand for $35.99.
The one on my webpage is for a Gates model which I liked for it's clean look. (even thought you don't see it much)

I'll continue to process order in the order they are recieved but want to proceed slowly since I have several units out but buyers have not been in a hurry to install them. I would still like feed back from the buyers in case I have to make any adjustments for engine differences I have not seen.

Well the snow has gone and the weather is warming up.

I have filled several orders and have three left to complete.

Ok, I have an 86 se with a hopped 3.4 v6 and an 88 rear cradle. I meant to take dodgerunners belt tension off just in case before I went to my track day, but I forgot.

So I have to say the belt tensioner has been throughly tested, I have driven over 100 mph on a track with no problems. Great job, I will probably be ordering another soon.

This keeps up and there will soon be more brackets off continent then on. (not really, but interesting)
Have multiples running in Germany, Switzerland, Japan and Hawaii.

Kind of lost count but have somewhere around 29 units out running on stock 2.8's, 3.4's, 85-88's and with underdrive pulleys.
