OK dog companions, let's see your pride and joys. Here are mine:
Wynonna (24lb 5 year old German Hunt Terrier - full blood): Vicious little dogs that LOVE to hunt. Great with the family though, not tolerant of any other dog. She stays in the house because of this (except during hunting season). She attacked a Rott 3 times her size and we had to pull her off the poor thing. She had the 200lb dog by the lip and was not going to let go. The Rott was taken aback and would never go near her again. In Germany they use these dogs to hunt wild boar, deer, you name it. Once they grab hold of prey they never let go.
Saatra (42lb 13 year old Doberman mix): If you don't show this dog constant affection she will smack you to death with her paws.
Sonny (145lb 2 year old pure bred Rottweiler): Sonny guards Fieros. Nuff said.
Billie (36lb 9 month old Australian Shepherd mix): Very hyper, will not hold still for camera.

Black Lab, German Sheppard and Border Collie all wrapped up into 90 pounds of too much energy..........I'd post a pic, but the damn dog wont sit still long enough <grin>
I've posted these guys before. Both are abandoned pups that I rescued.
This is Katie the day I got her, about a year ago now. She had heartworms, and I spent a ton of money getting her cured. She is fine and dandy these days, but I had to leave her alone at the house in the back yard all day. She is about 30 lbs.
Then, about two months ago, this guy shows up in my garage looking for help. This is Petey, and he has grown to 30 lbs now himself.
Katie and Petey are best of buddies now. They are just about evenly matched, and when they do their play "fighting", they take turns being the chaser and the chasee. Pretty entertaining. Someday, I will get a good picture of them together being best buds.
I used to have big dogs, but they are all gone now. These smaller "muttleys" are a real blast, and just can't get enough of the big guy (me), and my attention. Couldn't ask for any better friends than these two.

thats funny the topic got brought up, our Schipperke recently lost a few more teeth so last nite i took a pic of her and all i could think about was Boonie and his denture thread she has alot of health issues, thyroid issues... chrones (sp?) disease ect.. and takes 4 pills per day but she is a good dog, she is sposed to be fluffy like a teaddy bear, but 2 years ago we shaved her for the summer and her hair never grew back daisy is atleast 9years old weve had her for like 7 years and we got her from the pound just after she had a litter of puppies
My best bud, Odie. Rescued from a shelter in '01 and we quickly bonded. Sadly she had to be put down last week. Just too old and didn't even have the energy to get from her bed to her food/water without resting. Mentally, she had checked out a week or two earlier.

I FU*KING LOVE THAT DOG!!! i actually got her from a breeder in Russia. Kinda neat she has a tattoo on her stomach, which is the serial number form when they quarantined her for two weeks prior to letting her leave the country. I can say she is prolly the best dog ive ever had, and ive had prolly 8-10 dogs ( i grew up on a farm). Nothing but PURE MUSCLE!! one of my X's had rhotwiler (sp?) mix, thing was like 125lbs, pissed Meka off and she tore that thing a new one! Now he runs from Meka ; ). Be careful if you end up getting one though because everyone will want it!!! i have has atleast 6-7 people offer me $1500+ for her and even had 2 people try to steal her!!!!
This is the dog I dogsit. My sisterinlaws' dog at 8 months of age. He's 7 now and quite a bit more husky. We were a little disappointed. He maxed out at only 85 lbs.

I know what you mean about pure muscle. Cedric is the same way. He won't pick a fight but he'll be the one to finish it.
My wife is thinking about a smaller dog and the Frenchies just might fit the bill.
Thanks Nolan

This is Sammy the (you guessed it) Samoyed. Is there a Samoyed in existence that isn’t beautiful and doesn't have a wonderful personality? I don't think so.
Sammy wasn’t my dog, but I was able to “borrow” her for many (10?) years to take up the coast with me each summer to a very remote area. Her.... ummm, antics helped to keep the bears away.
One day I dropped unannounced by Sammy’s owners place to ask to take her for a walk (between summer trips) and found out that she had been put down due to age related problems. Gawd, I was choked. It wasn't until after her death that I fully realized why people would walk up to me and start crying when I used to take Sammy for a walk. These people were missing their own Samoyeds which had passed away.
Lots of happy memories remain of Sammy...

Rainman, sorry to hear of your best buddy having to be put down. It made me think of Sammy...
Sorry for the loss of your dogs. I lost my Rottweiler, Rocky, 2 years ago March. Sonny (pictured above is his replacement. Took me a while to decide to get another Rott as they die at a younger age than most dogs). He did not have to be put down, he was happy and pain free, he just passed away one night in his sleep of old age (11 years old - very old for a Rott). At 192lbs it took two of us to carry him out and lay him to rest.
RIP

This is Heidi, our 16 year old miniature Dachshund....
This is an older picture of her...
She's still very active, and acts like a pup when it's time for her treat. The only reason she's still alive is because I told my wife that we'd get new carpet after the dog died. I'm doing my damndest to keep this dog going...

Time to bring this thread back, to show our new baby. He ended up sick the day we got him. Spent the night in the animal hospital while the tried to stablize his blood sugar. But today he is doing great and they told us he wouldn't make it through the night. We will never buy from a pet store again thats for sure.
