On this day that we celebrate our independence, I thought it would be interesting as to how many fellow fiero owners here have been in the military, or are currently serving, how many years they served, and what duty stations they have been to. I served 8 years in the Navy starting in 1982. After all of my schooling, my first duty station was in Keflavik Iceland, where i spent 2 wonderful years. After that , i was stationed in Jacksonville Florida until I got out, While in Jacksonville i was attached to a couple of helicopter squadrons (HS-11 and HSL-46), and i got to experience a couple of deployments on an aicraft carrier (USS America), and a deployment on a fast frigate (USS Boone).

Served 2 years active 4 years National Guard. 95B - Military Police
Wartime roll while active duty was convoy escort/protection, while NG it would have been POW processing. Peacetime, I drove a police car daily and was almost the same as a city cop. Just remember, "Don't confuse your rank with my authority!"
Stationed at Ft. Hood for my active tour and Murray, Utah for my Guard duty. Got to spend a month at West Point doing white hat duty during their graduation ceremony. Loved watching the pleebs stop and snap to parade rest so I could pass.
Passed up re-enlistment for active duty for a girl back home (yes, stupid me). Re-enlistment would have sent me to K-9 school, Air Assault school and OCS prior to being deployed to Germany for four years.
Looking back, if I would have re-enlisted, I could be retired now with a good retirement and a second career. Oh well, we all make different choices.

I served 29 years in the Air Force. I started as a ICBM systems analyst, did some time as a instructor, recruiter, First Sergeant, medic and a Command Chief. I guess I couldn't keep a steady job. I was stationed in North Dakota, Illinois, Georgia, Florida, Mississippi, Louisiana, Panama, Saudi Arabia, and Kyrgyzstan. I am thankful for the time I was allowed to serve and the people I served with. God bless them all and keep them safe.

Two years active duty in Navy. Home ported in Japan but spent 18 months in Vietnam. During "Battle stations" I was one of 3 people on the outside of the ship. I was sprayed by water from an artillery attack . Most of the time we sat just off the shoreline firing our 5" gun at inland targets. Also had 3 years of active reserve.

I spent a few months short of 25 years in the Army trying to decide if I wanted to make it a career. Going to college in 1966 and 1967 and doing more partying than studying I was drafted in early 1968, after basic and advanced individual training I began my service in Vietnam as a radio operator for a field artillery forward observer where I did some dumb things that others felt showed great leadership potential, before I knew it I was a Second Lieutenant. Retired in 1992 as a Lieutenant Colonel. I never thanked my draft board but I guess I should have many years ago. As others have said, I enjoyed serving and am thankful for the experiences, people and cultures I experienced. As you all know you make friends who are friends for life. God Bless you all. I have served in the following locations; Fort Benning, Ga. - several times Fort McPherson, Ga Naval Air Station, Jacksonville, Fl Fort Gordon, Ga. Fort Bragg, NC - several times Schofield Barracks, Hi Pentagon - twice
Vietnam Korea - several times Central America - several times Desert Storm - Desert Shield

USNAR 1969 to 1975, E-4 Purple Shirt Aviation Fuels System Mechanic, USA home bases NAS Alameda, CA, NAS Pearl Harbor, HI
Assigned to Aircraft Carrier USS Oriskany CVA-34 in 1969, completed two Cruises to Tonkin Gulf Vietnam 1970 - 71. Overseas home base Subic Bay in the Philippines.
Here are 2 pages in link below, of very similar subject matter on Forum Members that dates back to 2002:
4 years, USAF, October 1975 - October 1979. Of course, I spent basic at Lackland in San Antonio, TX, where all AF basic trainees go. After basic, I went to Lowry AFB, Denver, CO (now closed) for tech school, 645X0, Inventory Management (supply). I was slated to go to McConnell AFB, KS for my first duty station, but because of my grades in tech school, I was offered a 4 year, controlled tour at the USAF Academy, Colorado Springs, CO, and that's where I finished my enlistment at. Worked in Material Control in the 7625th Civil Engineering Squadron for the first half of my tour, then in Bench Stock Support in the now disbanded 7625th Logistics Squadron (base supply). I couldn't wait for my enlistment to be over when I was in....now, I wish I had stayed and made a career out of it. A big part of my decision to get out was a screw up by the personnel squadron at the Academy. After my first three years, I applied for cross training...I was accepted for a test program to allow enlisted people to become flight engineers on C-130 and C-141 aircraft. All of my other paperwork was submitted, but I had to wait to get a flight physical until the doctor that was qualified to give them came back from leave. Once he got back, I had the physical, but unfortunately, personnel misplaced the report, and it never was sent down to Randolph AFB....and so, they gave my slot to someone else. After that, I'd had enough, and got out when my time was up.

March 1, 1994, I joined the Air Force. Eight months and eighteen days later, I was out of the Air Force because I could not learn Arabic at the pace the instructors were teaching it. Out of the 10 servicemen that made up our class, only two completed the 63 week course and went on to become linguists. The length of the course has since been extended to 93 weeks.
After wallowing, for four years, in what I felt was the worst failure of my life, I contacted an Army recruiter. On July 23rd, 1999, I flew to Ft. Jackson, SC for US Army Basic Training. Aberdeen Proving grounds was the site of my Advanced Individual Training (AIT) where I learned to repair small arms and artillery. I spent three years active duty at Ft. Lewis, WA with the 25th Forward Support Battalion and although I didn't realize it at the time, I loved every minute of it.
I went into the Army Reserves and have been there ever since. With 10+ years of service, I am now an Instructor with the Small Arms Readiness Group (SARG) in Horseheads, NY.

USAF for 21 years now and still going strong. I have had many job titles and just as many jobs. Went to Basic at Lackland AFB San Antonio, Tx in 1988; Technical Training at Shepperd AFB Wichita Falls, TX; C-5A Crew Chief at Kelly AFB (Reserve), from there I served in Desert Shield/Storm for the duration of that war, then went on Active Duty in 94 to become a Basic Training Instructor at Lackland and stayed at that job for 6 great years. I was transfered to Little Rock AFB Arkansas to be a C-130 Crew Chief and have been here ever since. During my time here I have been to Iraq a few times, once training the Iraqi Air Force to work on C-130's that we gave them to rebuild thier Air Force. I was sent to a few schools and am now a Combat Skills Instructor training folks on basic combat skills and Base defense techniques. I recently tested and made Master Sergent (E7) and will sew it on in December or January time frame. I have loved every min. I have served and love the country for which I have agreed to defend. I also salute all of you have served alongside of me and those that came before me. You Sir's (all of you) are hero's in my book.
Places visited while serving:
Germany England Italy Canada Japan Korea Iraq Qatar Saudi Arabia

USAF, 6.5 years. Spent the first jaunt @ Kirtland AFB in Albuquerque NM, & then PCS'd to Elmendorf AFB in Anchorage AK.
From Elmendorf I have been all over Asia, spent way too much time in the Middle East, and got to see alot of the Micronesian Islands.
Decided to get out when the possibility of going to college to obtain my engineering degree presented itself to which they were astounded that I'd turn down a re-enlistment bonus of 5oK and a 2 week trip to Saudi to sign it tax free. My wife ( who is also an AF vet ) had just had our daughter, she was getting out, I was getting out and had no intention at all of considering re-enlistment.
This fact just confounded them to the point where we had a sit down with the base commander to explain why it was that we were pulling chalks and gettin' out of town. Even the commander didn't understand to which I stated matters not, Im not re-enlisting; the decisions been made long before we got to this point.
Looking back, it was the best damn decision that I ever made to join, and then realize when it was my time to go.

Airman Anderson, AT-I level, USN the 28th is my 4 year mark and EAOS. had an accident the day i graduated A-school and was hospitalized for 4 months. 9 months convalescent leave. this was all from 21OCT06 to 06JUN07. and ive been on a med board for seperation since to this day. so my EAOS doesnt matter much any more. and i can not make rank because in the navy, you have to pass a test over your job and i lost my memory for my training, my job doesnt exist here at Tinker AFB and i wouldnt be able to work in it anyways due to my medical limitations. so i dont remember my training and i have no job experience.
i am now with Wing One at TACAMO on Tinker AFB. in my hometown. i joined to getaway from here. and i end up right back here. what a life ay? lol
places i have been are as follows:
Great Lakes, IL - boot camp Great Lakes, IL - across the street from boot for training in being a EN (engineman) never made it through and got sent to a harder school in... Pensacola, FL - NAS Pensacola for Aviation Electronic Tech Intermediate Level(AT-I Level) training *wrecked (flipped corvette) on graduation day when i was leaving the command, so ive been told anyways* *convalescent leave fro 9 months* Corpus Christi, TX - NAS CC, mistakingly stationed there, someone thought they were doing what was right. they werent. i was only there 2 months Oklahoma City, OK - Tinker AFB been awaiting a med board for the last 2.5+ years.
all my med board stuff just got put on a 60 day suspension in DC because they want more thorough results on my knees, back, and lungs. and everyone in the medical building have been putting off schedualing me the appointments. dont kow why i cant schedule them myself. im going to see if i can do that myself this week.
would i ever do it again if i could? HELL NO! i have had the worst experience ever for the military. im sure if things would have gone different, (no wreck) i would have loved it.
in case anyone is wondering and havent heard me say this yet, i suffered a traumatic brain injury, 2 collapsed lungs, lacerated my spleen n my liver and messed up my back. among other little things that happened and that i got from the hospital. they are now going to FINALLY take a better look at my back and lungs.
Army National Guard 6 years. Basic in Ft Benning GA summer 1980. Top Gun in Brigade D-4-1 Allowed Ranger training since was number one in Brigade. That was exciting. 11C ( 4.2 inch mortars ) Plot and Dot, gunner

I served 4 years as an active reservist and was sworn in April fools day 1986. I did boot camp in Santiago California. Then went to A school at treasure island California. My next duty station was Charleston SC where I spent the rest of my active enlistment then went home for the 4 years inactive part of my enlistment.
Hull Tech 3rd class. Its not easy making rate when your only an active reservist and serving with active duty. They just don't advance active reservists the same as active duty. My scores were always high enough but I was passed over twice because of my enlistment status. Oh well live and learn and never trust your Recruiter.
10 years, 1986 - 1996, USAF 86-90 C-141B Crew Chief - 602 OMS 90-96 Weather Specialist - 1st Weather Group, 25th OWS, Det 4; 13th Air Support Operations Squadron; 607th Weather Squadron Stationed: Travis AFB, CA; Holloman AFB, NM; Ft Carson AIN, CO; Yongsan USAG, Seoul, South Korea Schools and TDY: Sheppard AFB, TX; Chanute AFB, IL; Keesler AFB, MS; Air Force Academy, CO; Gagetown, New Brunswick, Canada; King Khalid International Airport, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia and a few others...

U.S.N..................1955-1958. Kiddie cruise.....join when you are 17.get out the day before you are 21. We still had wooden ships {minesweepers} My last 6 months were spent aboard a ARG in Long Beach repairing those ships. Kaneohe Marine Corp Air Station for 27 months. Kick myself in the ass for not sticking it out as a career. You young guys. if you are in...think about it as a career, if you don't absolutely hate it. You WILL reach age 37 very quickly.
