The dash seems to be clean and the numerals very bright.
That would indicate to me its more likely to be a fake. With 700k on it, you'd think it would be a little dirty and a little worn out looking, regardless of how well it was taken care of. Get the VIN and someone on here can run carfax

That kind of mileage is very possible. I have a customer that has 980,000 miles on his 1977 Mercedes and 380,000 on his second Mercedes...both original engine and transmission. My last Fiero had 200,000 when it passed away. Dave

The odometer is unvarifiable. It would seem odd that someone would want to roll it forwards. If anything, it could just be defective. I don't know. Just thought I'd share it with you guys.
That works out to almost 32000 miles a year if the car is an '84. That means that this car should have averaged nearly an oil change a month. I've only done 5 oil changes in the year that I've had my car, an I thought I was driving too much. Ha, how much do you want to bet that those aren't the original tires?

A traveling salesman, or service tech can easily do 30k a year. I averaged 2000 + a week when i was still doing on-site network stuff for clients all over the tri-state area, and i didnt travel all that much...

I managed an oil change every month for about 2 years. It gets really really tiresome doing it yourself all the time.

I put a 100,000 on a car in a year so it is possible. My ex and I both drove it 140 miles round trip a day(only had one car and worked different shifts). Plus it had several trips half way across the country.
There's a Fiero that some guy had over 1 million miles total, but obviously not on the original engine or tranny (or anything else probably).
Diesels can go waaaay further, especially Mercedes, although I can't see one going 980,000 on the original engine unless you consider some types of rebuilding as still the "original".
My dad drove his Ford Aerostar (97) on one engine/trans to 380,000. Luckily for him I took it camping at it died while I was 400k away from home interesting story for another time.
As for my Pontiac 6000 running the Duke it is about to roll over to 300,000 on original Engine and trans. The trans is getting tired but the engine it ready for another 300,000. I think if you take basic care of the duke you can make that baby stretch.
While we are on the topic; I've heard through friends that if you make a GM engine last to over 1 000 000k they will replace the car with a brand new model. Anyone else heard of that?

466K All origional. Pretty sure it's in the 5's now. I did hear that it got a new timing gear, but I don't consider that major considering it is a wear item.

both Mercedes are gas engines...one a 4cylinder (980k) the other a six cylinder. The only major engine repairs done were timing chain every 150k (normal service), and a valve job every 250k. The rings are original. Mercedes teflon coated the cylinder walls, so they still have the cross-hatched pattern with the 980k mileage. cool huh? I do get a lot of my customers come in with over 300,000 miles. I wish I could say I am a great technician, but it is more like great engineers. Dave

Is that mileage, or kilometerage? What's with the strange 'idiot light' placements/markings?
Has to be Miles, the speedo gauge shows "MPH" in the center with the numeric Km/H as the inside alternate, i believe with the canadian versions the "KM/H" is marked in the center where the numeric mph shows as the inside alternate, and some dont have mph at all. those idiot light markings (yellow/orange outline) were on the 84 models, kinda like that look myself.

I have an Iron Duke in a 1985 S10 that i bought new in 1984 and it has over 400,000 miles on it and it still runs great.still all the same parts that came on it except tires and brake pads. I got my money worth a long time ago.
