Well to start off my name is Drew. I am 20 yrs old. I go by the name fieroman_22 online. I have been on this forum many times, but now I am an actual member. I joined Fieros Northwest a couple of years ago, and with the help from them I have gotten my car futher and further along. About 3.5 years ago I bought a 1987 Pontiac Fiero GT 5spd w/ sunroof for $850. Needed new engine bascially, and usual scratches on hood. Other than that it was in great shape. I have always wanted one, and now I have one, though it wasn't my first car. =( After all these years and friends supporting me to get this car where I want it, I am about a third of the way. And to this day I still love it as much as I did the first day. Even through all the tough times, you all know what I'm talking about with the time and money and patience part.

Well to start off with I replaced the 2.8 with the usual 3.1. When I got it my dad and I saw it was bored out 0.040". My mods so far include- Ported headers, 2 1/4" exhaust, new cat, flowmaster series 80 muffler, cold air intake, hypertech chip, 160 deg thermostat, rear add on sway bar, front heavy duty sway bar, 17 adr rims, 215/45 front, 225/45 rear, black interior carpet, new custom short shifter and shift knob, cd player, newer speakers, hood vent, trunk scoop, custom integrated psoiler, custom headlights, chin spoiler, side scoops, shaved moldings and key holes, keyless entry, custom side skirts, shaved rear reflectors, side tinted sail panels, Accel 17# injectors, msd coil, 7.5 mm ignition wires, fierostore heavy duty clutch, tinted windows, Intrax lowering springs, I'm sure I have more performance mods in car. I have about $6000+ in car in parts alone. I plan on putting about $12-15000 more into it.

My future mods will be- a centrifical supercharger, new cam and lifters, new roller rockers, ss valves, new valve springs, alloy retainers, new valve keepers, new push rods, port and polish to heads and intake manifold, truleo intake plenum, front brake system, mandrel bent 2 1/2" exhaust like wcf, wcf long tube exhaust headers, wcf door sills, koni shocks and struts, aluminum flywheel, poly cradle bushings, full poly suspension bushings, hypertech 165 deg fan switch, rear strut tower brace, bump steer kit, alum radiator, black floor mats, custom paint interior dash trim pieces to color of car, poly trans and engine mounts, clear turn signals, exhaust tips, new comp chip for supercharged and performanced engine, fuel pressure reg, roll bar?, 19 or 20" rims, and paint of course. I have a CRX CAI on the way. My goal is to push 300hp + or - when complete.

If anyone has any suggestions on good parts to buy that I am looking for, that would be appreciated. Such as engine detail, I know to much lift is bad in perf and can hit piston, I wanna get my engine more high end hp, I feel I have enough torque and putting those headers on will increase it too. But I feel so much lack in high end hp. I know the supercharger will help alot, but I still want that power. I'm not looking at increasing rpms however. So if anyone has a good cam they could suggest, and whether to use 1.52 or 1.6 roller rockers with the cam that would be great. Also looking at help with color of paint to get. I will be painting it myself so where, don't have that yet. Mind you I have done everything on this car myself with a little help from others, so I plan to keep it that way. You will be seeing pics throughout the thread, so help me decide please. And I would like to get 19 or 20" rims. I know I want staggered rims. I'd like to do this without going to coilovers, but chances are I will have to. Does anyone know who will do a cheap port and polish on the heads? I knwo I can do them myself, but that's one thing I don't wanna risk, it's not like if I screw up, I can just use body filler to fix it and sand it down like the body. I'm still deciding on a front brake system, chances are I'll just do a cheap front vented conv, like fierostores or wcf. BTW does anyoen know what the diameter of fierostores conversion is? Still deciding on color for engine comp too. I will paint the underside of hood and trunk, and what I'm diciding is if I want to keep the plenum and valve covers red? I might change them to the color I paint the car. And same with roll bar. But I could have engine parts and roll bar and calipers all red. So for paint I have my mind on a lighter green or blue, gunmetal or silver, but I just cant see anything working right. I know almost anything will look right, but I just want the right color and I want it to stand out from others as well. As with rims I'm thinking black or gunmetal w/ crome lip. Oh, and I've been thinking of widening the rear a lil, but I just can't seem to see how I can do it with those side scoops and the gt side skirt pieces.

Well I guess it's time for pics.
Here is the the stock car of course, kinda boring looking, needs mods.

I asked for a single stack wing and this is what I got, don't worry it's gone now. Not what I wanted.

This is my car at the lake, kinda blurry, I'm gonna get a new shot here when I'm completely done. I love to do photography so I will take pro pics of my car in lots of places when done, chances are it won't be soon. Anyways, Here you see new side scoops and chin spoiler from fiero warehouse. Also my custom headlights (non popup) I bought from Kris Mudson, great work. And my 17" ADR rims. Which btw are for sale. Looking at $400 obo.

Another shot of same mods no wing this time.

Here is a top view with my newer spoiler I bought, also sold that one too. I didn't like how the stands weren't rounded at bottom, and the back of the spoiler went past the rear bumper just didnt look right. So I decided not to go with one for a while. After all that's how I bought the car.

Here is my car at the Arlington Picnic, primered (had a lil fun with the hood). Chin spoiler, yes it gets beat up when you lower your car. Also if you can notice, when I said custom side skirts, all I did was take the gt trim off the door ans mold together to the bottom piece to the top two pieces on the fenders. Gives it that once piece look. And just looking at this pic makes me wanna get rid off that antenna and do somethign new, either one of those 11" rubber ones, and hide it and shave hole.

Here is a rear shot of my car. You can see the trunk scoop I went with, not my first choice but I was waiting for a guy to sell me his mustang scoop, but I could never get a hold of him. I need to do more body fillign around it.

In this pic hardly tell, but I do have my hood vent done. Also my windows are tinted, I believe 32% side and 5% rear? I told the guy who painted my car that I needed a gallon of paint, he didnt agree and said just a half will work. So I trusted him and this is what happened. Ran out of paint. Good color too. No clear coat though, you'll see next pic. Oh and car is very dirty.

This is my gas cap cover that I spayed clear on to get the real color. Not bad.

Had to have a lil more fun with my car. Who says slicks won't fit on fieros?

Ok so it's not mounted just slid over brake area. Not bad.

This is another shot of the tire, also car is getting sanded down for real paint this time. Can also see where I started to shave side in front of drivers side door. And in this pic you can actually see hood vent, sorry best pic I got right now.

And lastly, this is my custom short shifter. I found a black titanium shift knob on ebay. I really liked it. Well it came with a honda short shifter, so my idea was to grind out the old shift rod, and weld in part of the honda one so the know would fit the rod in the fiero. Well whe I found out it was cast alum, it didn;t work, so I simply went to the store and bought a bolt that fit the knob, and welded it upside down inside the linkage piece. It's very short.

For now that's all the pics I have, I will be posting more as my car comes together. If anyone has any questions or comments, feel free to reply, also the suggestions would help. I look foward to replies and will now be able to reply to others. Thank you all. My email is fieroman_22@yahoo.com if you wanna contact me.

Drew

Here's the spoiler from the front and rear view, I know I'm not even close to finish with it. More body filler. But it makes the trunk vent look better in place. Also still have to customize the spoiler to wrap down onto sides a little.

Here's my headlights from front view, not good pic, dark outside, and moisture in light area. Inside are my driving/fog lights, outside is low beam, and inside is high beam, works great.

And here is a better view of the Hood vent.

Thanks bigfieroman, I just started with fiberglass and bondo.
white88gt, it is actually lowered, about 2 in intrax springs. i know doesnt look that low huh, the fierostore springs seem to lower more, but they are not supposed to be lower than intrax, but intrax is progressive rate.
electrathon, yeah thats me, im in that club, we need more meetings and what not, this year has not been the greatest, im gonna try to make a newsletter, actually of a parts letter, i wanna come out with a newsletter that shows people what they can do to their fieros, so maybe we can get mroe people interested inthe club, and or get more people that are in the club to show up to meetings,

If you want your car to run better and get better gas mileage, without any loss in performance, get rid of the Hypertec chip and the 160 degree thermostat. Go back to the stock chip and maybe a 185 degree thermostat, your car's engine will thank you for that and so will your wallet, when you fill your gas tank up.

Hey guy! I am also fairly new to the forum but have been at it with Fieros long enough to have bought an 85 new and still have it. I am north of you about 5 hours in Oak Harbor, just a few miles from the Arlington get-together that you went to.

Looks like you jumped in with both feet and have been trying all kinds of things. Good for you! I will be interested in seeing how your fiberglass work comes out.

My project car is featured on a build site located at http://64.17.190.253/

how would i get better power from losing the chip and thermo? i still get about 20 mpgs city, and to tell you the truth, i dont care about mileage too much. until we go to like 5 bucks a gal, then ill start worrying. or when i have more bills, i know you dont get much from the chip, i think someone dynoed it at +2 hp? but still.

Keep up the good work, and welcome to the forum. Too bad to see you putting all that hard work into a fastback though, when you coud be doing it on a Notchie! I like the "kandy green with a little kandy gold mixed" that AJ7 mentioned, I think it would look great on the car, maybe enough to distract people from the fact that it's a fastback.... N/K (yes, I own a Notchie)

im not that big of a notchie fan, although the raised wing mounts look great on that car, i dont like them as much on fastbacks, so i do like gt notchies, but truthfully i prefer the fastback, its alright, im not disrespecting you though, a fiero is a fiero, everyone has their taste. i might have to try this kandy green color, might have to photo shop it to see what itll look like on fiero, not microsoft paint program.

Wow - it's great to see that you have so much motivation to keep the project going... I know how time, money, and everything else can slow the process down!

As for the green... be careful, it's an addiction! (I first painted my '87 GT back around '96 using a custom mixed "Medium Metallic Green" with a gold pearl added. It was nice, but when it was time for the new paint about 18 months ago... I had been keeping my eye out for a good "donor" paint - and settled on "Jaguar Racing Green". It's a difficult color to photograph, so in some photos it looks true-green - in others it has a bit of a blueish cast to it.

Photo from it being painted:

And a recent one in a different light...

Keep up the great work - and keep us posted of your progress!

If you don't mind me asking... what's the current "going rate" for an R32? I know the R-33's & 34's are way up there, but I've heard of some reasonable 32's recently.

Can you get me some measurements on your hood vent? Do you have any clearance issues with the radiator parts?

Yep I have seen your car a couple of times at the Arlington show. Had more than a couple of people in our club asking about your headlight mod at our next meeting.

Hope to see ya at the 2006 Picnic.

Sorry guys for the wait, I work all day at times. Thanx Calikid, you have some amazing cars too. Minngreen, yeah for now... WEll see how it turns out. Capt Fiero, yeah I was there a couple times. I'll try to be there 06 just depends if i work and if i have money, but mostly if my cars running by then, usually when big events come up some lil prob occurs with my car. And headlights are from Kmunson, I did however take out one recently and put in a two in one headlight two projectors in one basically its nice.

And I'll have to go check hood measurments, I kinda just penciled in what looked good and went from there. Didn't want too high above the headlight area, but didnt want too low to see radiator and look rediculous.
Ok so 24" wide, 15" tall, 2" deep, and 8" from bottom of hood.
I like it alot. I think it's perfect. Not too wide and def not too skinny. I've seen some that do it less than a foot wide, I hate it. No no radiator probs, but of courrse had to cut into spare tire wall area, but not into spare tire. That still fits fine.

Planning modifications on one's car is one thing; calling a beautiful Fiero like yours "boring" just because it's stock is another. I think I'm gonna cry.
