Looking for a replacement seal for my Rodney Dickman axle support bearings, checked with Rodney and he mentioned someone had found a replacement part number, he does not stock these any more, so if anyone has a part number or source for a new seal, please let me know. ------------------ 84SE, aero body, 4 speed and an injected 355 V8

I used those for a bit and they spalled the surface of my CV joint, ruining it.

Oil leaking? Note is often not seal to axle but seal to bearing and/or bearing to trans. Because Many have them installed wrong or the "glue" quit sealing the bearings or install the bearings w/o "glue."
Little surprise because Many install normal axle seals wrong too or have big trans problems and blame the seal for leaking again. Then worse, too many go buy this.

You not the only one. Axle Spalling and worse using this is because that area isn't harden to be an inner race for any bearings. Some get away installing this scam because real bearing take most of axle loads. Others want cheap fix to sell a car soon. archives might have pictures because this had come up several times here alone after someone bought a "quick fix" for a car they wanted to keep or bought a car w/ them... Is likely on every GM forums and other sites too.

No major leaks, small amount of weeping, but no drips. The reason I asked is that one of my axles is starting to 'clonk' a little, so I may need to replace soon and figured I would need to replace the seal, I was thinking ahead and wanted to have these on hand when I need them.

Fiero axles most often Do Not make noise when "bad" like FWD cars because outer CV have no steering deflection. Only when you hit a big bump the Fiero CV's see some deflection up/down for all, plus in/out for inners.
IOW In OE Fiero "Axles" noise is very often hub(s) dying/dead not axles. Only main problem for Fiero is CV Boot failure often cause by simple old age. If left like that for a few days or more then water/dirt can wreck them. Unlike FWD outers where you "bend" the joints when steering the car almost or at the maximum limit and why most parts outlets have outer boots.
In your case, the added bearings can damage the axle itself and make same noises etc. as bad hubs covered in http://www.fiero.nl/forum/Forum2/HTML/143016.html See also http://www.fiero.nl/forum/Forum2/HTML/127848.html slowing a dead hub bearing w/ similar damage.

I have had this bearing "scam" on my transmission for ten years, no problems. So the metal is hard enough to be a spline but not hard enough to be a bearing surface? Maybe some people have problems because they are not using a new axle. I don't know. They have been problem free for me.

The inner CV joint cups are actually quite soft. No, they're not good bearing surfaces. I have the spalled CV to prove it.
Congrats that you've been lucky, but lots of other people have had problems over the years. Don't apply your results to the general population.
