Planning for an early start this morning, was going to travel to Indiana for a family/friends gathering.
Things don't always go as planned. Heading north on a state four lane coming into a city with quite a few stop light and speed cameras, I was at or slightly below the posted speed limit. Driving in the left lane with traffic on the right, I saw a vehicle at the intersection waiting to turn and cross my lane. I had a green light, he still proceeded to turn. I braked hard and headed to the right lane in the middle of the intersection but didn't quite make it. Got T Boned. The impact slid us about 8 feet to the right. I got stopped about 30 feet from the intersection. I checked on my wife who thought she was OK and then rushed to the other vehicle to check on that person(s).
The window got rolled down and the words I heard were NO ENGLISH! Called 911.
LEOs, FD and Ambulance arrived. LEO start taking statements. My non-English speaking competitor in this doesn't have a license, it wasn't his car, my understanding is no proof of insurance, not sure about legal status. My vehicle and his car get towed, I leave with my son. LEOs tell me to have a good evening and are very specific about where the fault lies.
My wife is now experiencing tingling going down her neck and shoulders. She left in that ambulance. What I haven't told you is, she just had spinal surgery while having C4-C7 fused with cadaver bones and steel rods placed about two weeks previously. We spent the night in the ER getting X Rays, CAT scanned and MRI things done.
She's now home with Doctor's prescriptions and order to do nothing, absolutely nothing and come see her neurosurgeon Monday. Swelling at the C3/C4 vertebra. He wants to monitor versus go back in, we'll see.
Went to the tow yard to retrieve some things from the wife's vehicle. The lady running the show says yes, we have all three of those vehicles. Huh?
I said there were only two vehicles involved. She then starts telling me that they towed three vehicles from the scene. Two actually involved in the accident, another vehicle showed up after I left with a load full of Hispanics (I'm told) who are arguing with the LEOs and actually get involved in a physical altercation, end up getting arrested and towed in.
Had a body shop take a look at the Ridgeline, he thought the adjuster would total the vehicle. This has not been a good week. Needed to vent some.
I hope your wife recovers well. That really sucks.
I had something similar happen to me ten years ago. A driver with no license, driving someone else's minivan, no insurance went into the bike lane and hit me on my bike as I was riding to work. I went to the hospital but luckily did not have serious injuries. My cloths were ruined and my bike had significant damage. When I went to the address she gave on the police report I found the landlord cleaning out the place. He had evicted the renter two months ago and her name was not on the rental agreement. He said the renter had many other family members living there, they stopped paying rent, it took him six months to get them out and they trashed the place. She is a scumbag from a family of scumbags who are raising the next generation who will likely walk in the same foot steps.
I can understand what you are going through. It sucks living your life as a responsible person then having someone who breaks the rules make your life go sideways. There will be very little accountability for such people. The best you can do is have your own insurance cover most of the cost and try to go on with your life.

Appreciate the response. My vehicle has full coverage, the question is, is it enough....................

I'm really sorry Ron, most importantly... I hope that this does not cause any long-term complications for your wife. It's just not fair when things like this happen.
I know this isn't the politics forum, but there is a reason why we need to have more enforcement of our laws against people who have no business driving on our roads without a license.
My mom was living in Northern Virginia a few years back, and she was driving home from her work in Dulles. She was driving down the road in her Isuzu Amigo which she loved (my dad picked it out for her as a surprise a year or so before). A lady ran a stop sign at a three-way intersection where my mom did not have a stop sign. My mom, of course, always being ultra-cautious... had slowed down anyway while going through the intersection. This lady coming from the perpendicular road blew right past the stop sign. Had my mom not been there to take the impact, the lady would have driven straight through and essentially off an embankment and into some trees (and probably would have died).
In any case, she T-boned my mom, which caused my mom's car to slam over and off the road where it hit a tree. My mom was T-boned on the driver's side... window shattered, etc.
My mom had blood streaming down her face, and she got out of the car to check on the lady that hit her...
"NO ENGLISH!"
... same **** ... "Lo siento, no hablo English!"
My mom was born in Argentina, so of course speaks Spanish fluently... and my mom just tore into her in Spanish, with blood streaming down her face.
When the police arrived, the lady claimed my mom hit her... which is totally absurd. The lady had no driver's license, no insurance, and the car also was not her's. My mom also had to interpret for her, because the Fairfax County police don't speak Spanish. Same **** ...
Todd, Thanks for the response. As I previously stated, I just needed to vent. My wife woke this morning from a very dark nightmare reliving the crash. She was terrified and screaming. She's still very sore but she thinks the tingling is slowly decreasing. I on the other hand keep going back and trying to think of things I could have done to have avoided this. All I can come up with is that I should have stayed in bed that day.
I don't believe the guy that T Boned us spoke no English but, that's what he claimed. See that frequently in many situations. But, there's not much I can do about that. Thankfully, the local LEOs had someone (eventually) show up that did speak Spanish.
Reference your Mom, I'll bet she's a "Fireball" when she upset. Glad to learn she's good to go now.
Sorry to hear this, best wishes for a speedy and full recovery.
In northern Indiana I've seen it getting so ridiculous some that gotta go 100+ weaving around traffic, using the shoulder because traffic is backed up and evening use the exit ramps and then cutting back in just to get 1 or 2 positions in front, oh and don't forget the last minute --- holes that cut you off cause they didn't pay attention to the signs lane ends!!!

These lunatics shouldn't be on the road period!
Yep, have seen such things myself recently, two motorcycles at very high speeds racing down the interior emergency lane being chased by a LEO. Appreciate the response. Not looking for sympathy, just needed to vent. Thanks again.
Holy crap, Ron! Just saw this. I hope your wife recovers quickly and completely. This gave me pause to think, because WE just got home from a vacation trip to Rogers Kentucky. Remembered you were from Kentucky, while we were there. It's always some of my more anxious moments, hitting the road for a long excursion. People are stupid, and irresponsible. Fortunately, those people are (still, hopefully) in the minority. Unfortunately, they seem to be the ones that "stand out". (In your situation, they may have had to take me to jail.) I'll think about her/y'all in my "nightly conversation" (prayers). Take care.
