A multi nation, by sea invasion of nazi controlled France at Normady. An amazing event. Great loss of lives, tall cliffs which had to be scaled. All while the nazis controlled the high ground. Amazing courage of the allies.

Thank you heroes.

The longest day for the planners and soldiers. The largest amphib landing in history.

It has to take a lot of guts to walk off the front ramp of an amphib boat, with the bullets coming straight toward you. I have done it......WITHOUT the bullets flying and even then, that first step into the water is a bit sketchy.

They say the water turned red in places. Uncommon valor was a common attribute that day.

But, Yesterday (always the 1st Friday in June) was also National Donut Day. On the surface, it sounds kinda trite but it's more than free donuts and it came about because of hard work and sacrifice..........from The Salvation Army and American Red Cross.

I had heard that the allies shelled the beaches before the operation to provide fox holes for the soldiers. Also, in preparation, the allies build dummy wooden tanks and ships so as Germany would think we would be invading in another spot, the shortest distance by sea between the land masses.
