Thoughts ?

This is a storied year. One driver hopes to win three back to back becoming the only one. Another driver hoping to win his fifth, a record. A rookie starting as the pole driver spot, a first.

Race starts at ??? about 11:30 AM.

The National Anthem singer did a exceptionally good rendition. Natalie Grant. Five time Grammy Award winner. Nominated nine times.

What a great race. After a rain delay, one driver wrecked his car on the pace lap, before the race even got started. On the pace lap, two army black hawk helicopters flew low overhead of the race cars around the track. AWESOME !

The first place qualifier who is the pole driver, is from Tel Aviv Iseral. A first time racer at Indy. He did wreck out of the race just after mid race. He was in fourth place at the time.

Having attended the Indy 500 a few years ago, I can assure you, I'll never go back. Watch it on TV maybe but attending sucked.
Nothing against the race or racing,

I like crowds but 350,000 would suck. As an in person spectator you get no close up views, interesting comments about current and past history, or even replays of crashes. Nor race car camera video.

I've been to Indy off-season, the the track and museum are awesome, and I've been to much smaller races at Michigan Speedway and the Detroit Grand Prix, worth the chance to see in person. Being there with 300,000 people would be a bit much for me though.

I just couldn't believe all the issues they were obviously having from rain, slick spots, cold spots, etc, the absolute chaos in the pits with fires, guys getting hit, you NEVER see that, I was shocked. I don't mind a boring race as long as it's safe, I just prefer to see an actual race, not one based on tire or fuel strategies.

Tires and fuel strategies are necessary. My Grandfather owned a tire shop and sold tires at races along with daily business. Circa 1968. I was able to accompany him to the ?pits where racers bought them as they needed them. Fun times.

Going to the Indy 500 was something I wanted to do until I got there. Won't go back.

Although, I have driven my former 3800SC around the Michigan track and the KS City tracks. DId the NASCAR Driving Experience at KY Speedway and that was fun (had the second fastest time for the day, the fastest dude beat me by IIRC less than half a second) but, no longer interested in going to the race events, just too many people for me and most of them having consumed way more alcohol (or something) than they should have.

I have had the opportunity to take a couple of laps with my Valkyrie group but didn't feel comfortable with some of the riders who thought they were God's gift to competitive riding. Yep, one did crash.
