Just venting here:

Went to my bank and got a cashier's check for my new shop deposit. (Half the building price.) Went straight to the US Post Office and paid handsomely for overnight delivery. Payment had to be received in order to get on the schedule. That was last Wednesday about noon. The check was delivered today, Monday at 1300 hrs. The delay means I won't get my shop built now till the last week of April. The erection crew already has all they can handle this week.

As I said, I'm venting. I was and am still pissed. While I did get my Overnight Charge returned to me, the delay in getting the shop built really ticks me off, throws a monkey wrench into my plans for the rest of Spring and into Summer. That two-post lift I ordered will now either have to be delayed or left sitting out in the weather until I can get a roof up. I know I can wrap it in a tarp but...................

Interesting, venting doesn't do a damn bit of good about making me feel better about it.

Ronny, venting does / is good. It keeps my finger off the trigger.

Let me see if I have this right. You had a shop, with a lift, and now you are complaining that now you do not.

Cliff, almost correct. I had a shop in KY when I lived there but, that shop and lift were sold with the house. Moved to Mississippi where I intended to build another similar shop but, other priorities came first. Sold the home/property in MS and moved to TN. Told the wife that I was going to have another shop or, I wasn't moving, she agreed that the shop was a go. Been here almost a year and will now get that shop and lift in late April. Once built, the electrical wiring and insulation will be done and the lift installed.

My son thinks I need a 11K lb. lift but since I no longer have the Ram 3500 Dually, I don't think so. Well, he has a Ram 3500 Dually and apparently wants access to my shop/lift. Told him I no longer need a lift of that capability but, if he wants to pay the additional price, it won't bother me. The price difference between a 9K lift and 11K lift is interesting. Doesn't really matter to me, nothing I currently have needs a lift with that capacity.

BTW, I'm still pissed at the Postal folks. Rescheduling the electrician and foam installation folks is now a challenge.

Rams

I'm feeling good that the Post office sucks some where else too.
For some reason the great carriers we had got replaced by morons that can't be bothered to do their jubs so they lie and say undeliverable or no one home, no access.
Manager in our little city can barely tolerate looking up at anyone behind the counter.

Got some serious Fed Ex complaints too but I will stand down.

Sorry about your troubles. You are in a big boat with a lot of people.

USPS in GA "consolidated" several locations into a new hub in Palmetto. AKA "where your mail goes to die".
Although, to be fair, they've gotten better over the past few months.
Our local people, OTOH, are good as gold.

But the Post Office has taken a lot of the heat off of our previous favorite whipping boy - Fed Ex.
The people in west GA (not so) jokingly refer to the Fed Ex hub in Austell as "Lost Hell".
We've even given vendors a hard time for using Fed Ex. Unfortunately, they have a contract, so they're stuck.

Yep, our own mail carrier is a wonderful lady and gets the job done. She's also good looking.
Things seem to appear to fall apart at the hubs but, I can't prove that.

My Army issued Spousal Unit orders a huge amount of "stuff" over the internet, some delivered by Prime, some by FedEx. In that I normally have no idea that she ordered any of the "stuff", I can't say much about their on time delivery. Regardless, my Overnight mailing via USPS finally got to it's destination and I'm feeling better it didn't disappear into a dead bin or get stolen.

I'm still amazed that I can put a letter in my mail box (in VA) and it will get to California in about 5 days, however, they then turn around and do the following..,

I needed to get a copy of a lien release for a boat I was selling. The credit union located in Mclean VA (40 miles from my house) posted by registered overnight mail on a Wednesday. Letter went to the following...Merrifield VA .....Rockville Md ..... Richmond VA .....Fredericksburg VA .... Stafford VA ... delivered 10 days after mailed by the bank.

Yep, some things are really confusing. I'm tempted to send a letter or greeting card to my next-door neighbor just to see how long that takes.

Nothing good ever comes in the mail (anymore).
I have complained about USPS for YEARS now!
Yes, it's amazing that I can send a 1st class piece of mail (commonly referred to as a letter) 1/2 way across the USA faster than I can send the same piece of mail across my county.
The United States Postal Service needs to be shut completely down by that new govt outfit (which I won't name here in OT)
USPS 'claims' not to be a govt entity but requires govt (taxpayer) cash inflow ever so often to keep them afloat.

I have a stack of 'mail' here on my desk right now, 95% of which I won't even open and probably 25% of which isn't even addressed to anyone in this household.
If I got rid of all of it today, I'd have another stack of the same crap this time next week. The mail lady gets mad that I won't empty my mailbox every day but I just tell her to stop bringing all that junk mail that no one asks for or wants and my box won't be full all the time.
"But I'm just doing my job!!" she cries.

"Yeah yeah yeah lady, that's known as the Nuremburg Defense. . It didn't work for the nazis and it's not going to work for you.
You and those like you are making money off all this junk. If you like it so much, take it home and deal with it yourself"

This is much like a post from another board I frequent. For whatever reason seems things at the USPS around my area work OK. It could be a management issue at the different hubs. And there's always UPS!

Golly, I'm quite certain that if she was our delivery person, my Spousal Unit's ordering/deliveries would slow down dramatically knowing I usually meet the deliveries at our back door.

The good news is, my building and the erection crew are scheduled for delivery next Monday now. Yeah, the builder finally got and processed my check. Once erected, I will schedule the electrician (already notified), spray foam insulation and gutters to direct water flow to where I want it to go.

With electronic billing and receipts, email and other things, I rarely use USPS and will try to avoid in the future. It's simply too unreliable except for (as Mary Jane said) JUNK MAIL I don't want anyway.

I suppose now is not a good time to joke about the Erection Crew? (Sorry, I'm very immature).

I totally understand, it's so frustrating. For things like that, I unfortunately never trust USPS... I always go with UPS and / or FedEx. The failure for things to be on time is rarely, if ever because of the logistics (planes, vehicles, etc.)... but the people operating within the confines of the contract. If you get something delivered to a UPS Store by 5:00 PM, and you do overnight, and it says "must be shipped by 5:00PM" ... you can guarantee it will be there come hell or high water, overnight. But if you drop it off at 5:00 PM at USPS in the slot, which says 5:00 PM (just saying, not sure if any of these times are correct). It's possible that the USPS person wanted to go home early, and may have checked it last at 4:45 or 4:30, or whatever it is.

Or if there's a slight issue with the package, it'll sit on a desk,.. and then they'll do the other tasks and not deal with it until they have time... so now your overnight is a 3-day.

USPS is great for inexpensive quick delivery using priority... but sad to say, I'd never rely on them if I truly needed something next day.

Sorry man...

USPS was used because the closest UPS and FedEx outlets are about 20 miles away. Time was critical in getting it to a carrier before their deadline for overnight delivery. I just barely made it to the Post Office before the deadline for guaranteed delivery. Cost was not a factor; it was a time thing. Another one of those lessons learned the hard way.

Sorry. Darlene was a mail carrier (recently retired). But she is not Fiero Chick's mom. And Darlene's daughters were never on the forum, except maybe in passing.

Hindsight is 20/20 but if it was that critical, you could have had your bank wire the money. The wire fee would have probably been the same or cheaper than the over night shipping fee.

That sucks that USPS dropped the ball. I cannot believe it was that late. You should be able to look up the tracking information to get an idea of what happened.

I personally think the USPS hub centers here in California hire nothing but lazy, entitled morons who really don't care about getting your packages to your door in a timely fashion.

I live 5 hours from Los Angeles. I order something from Irvine and it sits at the USPS hub in Irvine for 3-4 days before being shipped. Then I have to wait another 3 days for it to drive past my house to the hub in Sacramento so if I'm lucky, I'll get an item that is 5 hours away in about 5-7 days. It's almost insulting to me.

Meanwhile I ordered an electrical item from Nevada and it arrived in 3 days, an item I ordered from Japan arrived in 8 days WITH customs, and items that I order from Florida take about 5 days.

It's clearly a southern california problem. They should shitcan the entire staff and hire more qualified people who will actually take pride in their job.

Not 'just' a southern californa problem. I can send and receive mail from out of state far faster than from across the same county that I live in. (Well, maybe it's because so many ex-californians have moved here and went to work for usps................
