All federally regulated employers in Canada are now required to stock free feminine hygiene products such as tampons and menstrual pads in all restrooms, including men’s.
The new regulations, which went into effect earlier this month under Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s left-wing administration, specify that menstrual products must be in "all toilet rooms, regardless of their marked genders," according to Canada’s Employment and Social Development website.
"This means that every female-identified, male-identified and all-gender toilet rooms will need to have menstrual products," the website says, noting that the availability of these items "better protects menstruating employees and makes sure that they feel safe to use the toilet room that best reflects their gender." The policy applies to all federal public service departments, crown corporations, banks, airports and train yards, according to the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC).
The products are intended for employee use and not for members of the public, the publication reported.
Additionally, all affected employers are required to make sure a covered container for the disposal of menstrual products is also provided.
"A disposal container must be placed in each toilet room that has one toilet," the policy reads on the government website. "In rooms with multiple toilets, a disposal container must be in each toilet stall."
While the policy change went into effect on Dec. 15, many federally regulated employers had already started stocking their bathrooms with free menstrual products in the days leading up to the deadline.
Former Canadian conservative Senator Linda Frum set off a firestorm online three days earlier after she posted a picture of a basket of products inside a men’s bathroom for transgender members of Parliament.
"Back in the day, when only women menstruated, we had to pay for our own products," Frum posted to X. "But now that men menstruate too, these products, as of this week, are mandated to be free in all men’s washrooms in all federal workplaces, including Parliament Hill — where this photo was taken today."
The tongue-in-cheek post blew up online, generating nearly 900,000 views.
"Men do not menstruate," one responder wrote, to which Frum replied, "Exactly."
The drive to get the products into all bathrooms controlled by the Canadian government kicked off a few years ago when various advocacy groups such as Here For Her, United Way, Period Packs, and the Canadian Women's Foundation began lobbying the Canadian government.
Rachel Ettinger, the founder of Here For Her, a group focused on health education, launched a petition that was eventually presented in the House of Commons of Canada.
"Not only women or those who identify as women menstruate," Ettinger told CBC. "Trans-men, gender-non-conforming and two-spirit folks menstruate as well, and everyone who menstruates deserves to menstruate with dignity."
Megan White, the executive director of Period Packs, said that limiting the products to women's restrooms raises equity issues.
"We can't ask people to self-identify in the workplace," White told CBC. "Why not accommodate everyone if you can? Why not set the highest standard as a federally regulated agency?"
Accommodate Everyone if you can?

I have no idea what kind of 'news' website that is, but got some really weird stuff on it.

Maria Blair initially said she saw the UFO which landed on the banks of the Pascagoula River, Mississippi, US, before three creatures kidnapped two fishermen.
She also remembered seeing a strange grey man emerge from the water as they stood watching the UFO on the pier on the opposite side of the river.
Well, the moonshine down here has no expiration or best used by date on it.
But that really has nothing to do with Canada requiring tampons in men's restrooms.
Although, the attempted distraction did cause me to do a bit more research and I find that Canada isn't the only government going WOKE, we have our own government right here in the good ole US of A that's gone there also.

Oregon's "Menstrual Dignity Act" passed in 2021 requires all school bathrooms have free feminine hygiene products... NOT just women's rooms...
...and some of the boys are sick of the silliness...
"Feminine hygiene dispenser in Oregon boys' bathroom found in toilet in apparent protest"
I can confirm this is true. When I saw it, I was like, WTF??
...but then, one only has to look at the twit we have running the country...
Unlike some, I try to stay out of another country's political drama but, from a distance, you may have a point. Politics entertaining Social Issues? Or, is it the other way around?

It's apparent you don't wish to answer a direct question with a direct answer.
You seem awfully invested in what goes on in men's washrooms.
This thread you've started is the first I've heard of these new regulations. I couldn't care less if there are feminine hygiene products available in federal government building men's washrooms.

OK, another distraction/deflection and unwillingness to answer a direct question with a response indicating whether or not it's hoax as was inferred. That's all I asked. I also didn't ask your feelings about the issue although knowing it now still doesn't make a difference to the original question i asked of you. There was no attempt to play word games on my part, just asked if, the reported Tampons in Canada story was correct. A response of I don't know would have sufficed but................................................
I also acknowledged that we have our own Tampon issue here on our west coast. Woke is spreading I guess.................

I inferred no such thing. I made no comment regarding your opening post. I quoted something stated by another member, and I responded to it. Seems simple enough. This isn't rocket science.

An unfounded anecdote about kitty litter boxes for role-playing students in public schools is the rumor that just won’t quit, and especially in certain political circles.
Don Bolduc, Republican candidate for New Hampshire senator, is one of the latest conservative politicians to repeat the hearsay that schools are providing litter boxes for students who identify as anthropomorphic cats, or “furries,” according to CNN.
“And get this, get this,” Bolduc says in a recording obtained by CNN. “They’re putting litter boxes, right?… I wish I was making this up.”
It turns out the story is untrue.
The rumor, which has been repeated by several Republican nominees around the country as well as making the rounds of cocktail parties, has been repeatedly shot down by fact finding, including an Oct. 31 rebuke of Bolduc by Pinkerton Academy in Derry, New Hampshire.
The academy tweeted that political candidates are welcome to visit the campus “before making claims about what occurs here.”
The kitty litter box hoax has spread so far and so fast it even has its own debunking wikipage, which claims the rumor is in response to schools enacting rights for transgender students.
“This is absurd. Without merit at all,” says Lydia Young, teaching professor for Northeastern’s Graduate School of Education and faculty lead for the teacher licensure program. . . .
Figures that a "Stage Three" (or should I say "Stooge Three"..?) MAGA-moron like Don Bolduc would have been talking up this nonsense.

Some parents are under the impression that School District 67 in Penticton has embraced diversity to the point of allowing students to use separate bathrooms complete with litter boxes, if they identify as a cat.
“Remember: what's good for the most marginalized students is often good for all,” according to Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity 123 guide to inclusive bathrooms. “SOGI-inclusive facilities tend towards being more inclusive and safer for all students.”
Kitty litter does get purchased by SD67, according to a spokesperson from the district, however the litter is only used during the wintertime when added traction is needed on frozen surfaces.
“Senior management is aware of those rumours circulating on social media,” the spokesperson said, adding that the same story is gaining popularity in other parts of B.C.
“But they're just rumours.”
Wilbur Turner with Advocacy Canada in Kelowna said the rumour started because some schools in the U.S. did in fact purchase kitty litter and buckets for students to use as toilets, but only in the extraordinary measure of an active-shooter lockdown.
“This is an example of how facts are distorted to fit a narrative and used against a minority community,” Turner said. “This is harmful and damaging as it dehumanizes people and attempts to characterize them as somehow deviant and dangerous.”
The matter has been taken more seriously in other parts of North America.
In North Dakota, it has recently become illegal for public schools to provide “accommodation that caters to a student's perception of being any animal species other than human,” according to Bill 1522 which came into effect earlier this year.
That same bill also prohibits students from using washrooms that do not correspond with their sex, and allows trans students to be misgendered.
Last year, podcast host Joe Rogan said on his show that a school installed a litter box to accommodate a student who identified as a furry, though he retracted that comment on a later episode.
This thread you've started is the first I've heard of these new regulations.

Ya know, that's all you were asked about from the start, doesn't matter to me but the responses were at best cryptic and full of distraction..................... It really didn't need to be that way.
As I stated, I can confirm this is NOT a hoax (with reference to the tampons/pads) as I work in a Canadian government building and they are indeed in place in the washrooms.

Last year I walked into an Amazon site I hadn't been to in a while. Threw me off, I thought I went into the wrong restroom. It's at all their sites now and has been.
Doesn’t bother me….but it is a mental illness … just plain stupid.
Thinking transgenders are suffering from a mental illness implies a potential lack of education. A fundamental aspect taught in middle school biology is the embryonic development of gender, highlighting how deviations can occur during this phase, leading to being born in a body that does not align with one's gender identity. This biological perspective is exemplified by hermaphrodites, who possess both male and female sexual characteristics. Are they mentally ill as well? Of course not. But here you can visibly see something went wrong as where with transgenders, it's not as easy.
Contrastingly, identifying oneself as a cat lacks a corresponding biological basis. Unlike gender incongruence, there is no established biological pathway resulting in the accidental birth of a human with a feline identity. If you want to call this a mental illness, then you would probably be correct although I suspect it's more the fault of these people's environments where such behavior is actually encouraged.

You've probably not watched the documentary called Red Dwarf, which explains how a cat stuck on a vessel for an extended amount of time, the inbred offspring of the original pregnant cat, genetically evolved into a race of cat/human species.
In a galaxy far, far away on board a mining ship 5 miles long Dave Lister, a lowly technician, fed his cat Frankenstein for probably the last time. He was about to go into stasis for bringing an un-quarantined animal on board. Not only was she un-quarantined, she was also pregnant!
For 3 million years the cats bred, became educated and retold half forgotten stories about their God, Cloister the Stupid, who was frozen in time but would return and lead them all to Fuchal, the Promised Land.
During this time the Cat race evolved to a point where they needed religious laws to keep themselves in order and Cat priests were responsible for enforcing these laws.
Cloister gave the Cats 7 sacred commandments that they were bound to uphold; they were…[
THOU SHALT NOT BE COOL
• THOU SHALT NOT BE IN VAIN
• THOU SHALT NOT HAVE MORE THAN TEN SUITS
• THOU SHALT NOT PARTAKE OF CARNAL KNOWLEDGE WITH MORE THAN FOUR MEMBERS OF THE OPPOSITE SEX AT ANY ONE SESSION

that's what made it so good!
Kryten: Oh, it's not the end for me, sir, it's just the beginning. I have served my human masters, now I can look forward to my reward in Silicon Heaven. Lister: [Stunned pause] Silicon WHAT? Kryten: Surely you've heard of Silicon Heaven? Lister: Has it got anything to do with being stuck opposite Brigitte Nielsen in a packed lift? Kryten: No, sir. It's the electronic afterlife. It's the gathering place for the souls of all electronic equipment. Robots, toasters, calculators. It's our final resting place. Lister: I don't mean to say anything out of place here, Kryten, but that is completely whacko Jacko. There is no such thing as 'Silicon Heaven'. Kryten: Then where do all the calculators go? Lister: They don't go anywhere. They just die. Kryten: Surely you believe that God is in all things? Aren't you a pantheist? Lister: Yeah, but I just don't think it applies to kitchen utensils.I'm not a FRYING pantheist. Machines do not have souls. Computers and calculators do not have an afterlife. You don't get hairdryers with tiny little wings, sitting on clouds and playing harps. Kryten: But of course you do. For is it not written in the Electronic Bible, "The Iron shall lie down with the Lamp".
I watched a lot of episodes of Death in Paradise before I realized the same actor that played Officer Dwayne Myers was the same one that had earlier played Cat in Red Dwarf.

Maybe the Tampon Rule is a step forward, or maybe it isn't, but you can always make this kind of remark. Regardless of whatever issue or measure that's just been decided, there's always going to be something that would seem to be a higher national priority. So remarks of this kind should not be accorded any value. Especially when you can't say anything specific about how this Tampon Rule and how the previous deliberations about it actually interfered in some tangible way with the Canadian government's national security responsibilities.
It's an empty remark.
Maybe the only exception would be if the Canadian (or any other) government had just announced an Emergency Declaration about a giant asteroid that was on the verge of destroying the planet... authorization to undertake some civilization-saving space mission to stop it from happening.
I guess it would be hard to diss it, sarcastically, with "this is the 'crisis' that the government needs to address," because then it would literally be "THE crisis that the government needs to address."
