I need a new bike tablet within the next week or so. Nav system (offline google maps) and on-the-fly motor controller access are the main uses.

For the size I want (7-8 inch) and what I want to spend on a tablet that lives outdoors a lot (100-150 bucks giver or take) the 2 choices seem to be the Fire from Amazon and ONN from China-mart. A 10.1 wont fit where I need to mount it, so that option is out.

SEEMS on the surface the Amazon tablet is the better deal and more capable tablet (expand up to 1TB vs 256gb, 3 gig RAM vs 2), and has better case choices for shock-proof cases.

Fire I will need to side-load Play store (easy enough done) and ONN I will have to manually install the Amazon apps, so they are pretty even there. Price-wise the Fire is a little cheaper but not a whole lot (I am getting brand new for this)

BUT, I see a lot of used Fire's for sale on marketplace and very few ONN's. Gotta be a reason for that. Anybody have any experience with both ?

Many get a tablet like "net books" before, find they don't do anything much w/o net access and give up.
Some buy next upgrade for whatever reason.

I bought used a Fire very cheap and sits on a shelf for several years now because is useless. Example: If you have a map app and hit an edge of current map and can't get to the net for any reason then the software can't get next section. Doesn't matter how much storage the device has but how much of device storage the app can/will use.

Related: Most Phones can take a Video... Many will Stop recording @ 3 minutes regardless of phone memory and no settings to change this. Is a problem when you really want to record to maximum time the flash can take. 3 min Vid often isn't Max File Size many Flash types can take either. Fat32 can take 4GB Files vs 696MB my current phone make video files.

Plus having the screen on eats the battery. Is why many use GPS on phones in cars have them plug in most of the time. Tablets have same problem but bigger battery may last longer Or not because have larger screens and backlight too.

You likely see more Amacon devices on 2nd hand market because likely sell way more then others.
Like you find a lot of Dell or HP PC's vs other brands in most places w/ many of those are used or refurb Dell Optiplex/ Latitude Business systems. Because They sold/lease Millions of them to "Fortune 500" size business and then people working for them even when buying lower grade consumer lines like Dell Inspiron also pushed by BestBarf etc.
