Nazareth is/was a Scottish heavy metal group back in the 70s...Their most famous song is "Hair of the Dog" which is better known by the chorus phrase; "Now you're messin' with a...A Son of a ***** "
My funny story about HOTD; My father was re-finishing the cabinet of his old Philco wood-cabinet stereo while I installed a CD player and some high-quality speakers and receiver...The (Arrogant) "lady" across the hall knew I didn't have a stereo and started playing her music loud all the time. The day I finally got the stereo back, she did not know this and started playing some music loud...so I played "Hair of the Dog" at "9" (The whole building was shaking)....Afterwards, total, complete silence. She never played her music loud again.
What I find amazing about Nazareth is that they took a couple of songs and changed them, making them (Very successful) heavy metal songs;
The first is the Everly Brothers "Love Hurts" It was not a very big hit, but how in heck did Naz take it and change it to what became a big hit?
Everly Brothers version;
Nazareth version;
Next up is the Joni Mitchell song "This Flight Tonight"...They don't even seem to have any relation except the words....
Joni's version;
and then the Nazareth version;
Where they came up with the temerity to take these two songs and change them like this, I can't imagine- but I stand in awe of their ability and chutzpah.
