There is no "dark side of the moon". There is a near side (to Earth) and a far side. IOW, there's simply a side we can't see from our vantage point here on Earth.
Even if we could see that area, the impact wouldn't be visible to the naked eye and probably not even with powerful binoculars. It is not expected to create a very big crater, maybe just a few yards wide. NASA's 5800lb Lunar Crater Observation and Sensing Satellite (LCROSS) was intentionally crashed into the moon at 5,600mph, into an existing crater and it barely made a dent even viewed thru powerful telescopes. Before and after photos of LCROSS impact area:

OK, you got me on that one. I was trying to set up the Pink Floyd reference. I fixed it.

What am I missing ? Am I to believe that this Space X rocket is going behind the Moon, turning around, and then impacting the Moon at 5,000 mph ?

Cliff, I'm no expert on this but, I'm thinking they expect it to enter a low orbit which will cause the rocket to crash into the dark far side of the moon

Not exactly. It's not 'turning around' in the usual sense. It's chaotic 3 dimensional orbit will finally take it so close to the moon that it will be drawn down closer to the surface of the moon and the moon's gravity will do the rest.
It's just been going hither, tither and yon, wandering aimlessly (kinda like a few PFF OT contributors) and now, The Great Gawd luna is callin it home.
unlike the original thing...

I do think for some the term in the dark may fit referring to "not illuninated" in the sense of "not seen". But yea Pink Floyd could be blamed for most misconceptions probably.
Such sweet solos

Well, it turns out that the recalcitrant rocket, the misguided missile was mistakenly marked as made by Musk. Perhaps it caught some sort of bat virus...
