The loveliness of Paris seems somehow sadly grey
The glory that was Rome is of another day
I've been terribly alone and forgotten in Manhattan
I'm going home to my city by the Bay . . .

Billionaire Marc Lore is singing a different tune, according to this CNN report, and it starts with "The cleanliness of Tokyo, the diversity of New York and the social services of Stockholm . . ."

"Plans for $400-billion new city in the American desert unveiled"

Oscar Holland for CNN; September 6, 2021.
https://www.cnn.com/style/a...-new-city/index.html

Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) and Bucharest studio. (CNN.)

It's not a long article.

You're gonna need water, water that's available from the environment. You need to be close to truck or rail transport lines. How you gonna make that work out West in arid conditions with the limitations we're faving now and going to face in higher degrees doing forward? And then there are regulatory bodies to deal with.

Just those point to the Red states 9f the Southeastern Seaboard region. Maybe Missouri too.

He's not even perceptive enough to realize the reasons why I created this Topic.

It all comes down to a recreation for me, when I'm here. In this case, nothing more than a small accessory to a mug of fresh brewed covfefe coffee and TV in the background.

He can't be Great Again until he logs himself out and focuses on something else, because when he's here, he doesn't amount to s*it.

It would just be trading one Marxist city for another.

“One of the primary motivators here to do this was . . . testing a new model for society,” says Lore, 50. “What we're calling ‘equitism,’ which is capitalism reimagined.”

https://www.forbes.com/site...ure/?sh=5ea64d8f6c12

(NO...that's actually called COMMUNISM. It isn't a "new model" and trying to rename it doesn't change what it is.)

Aside from the jaw dropping cognitive disconnect, (or just LYING), of an "investor" that got very rich benefiting from capitalism telling everyone about it's "significant flaws", history is littered with these kind of failed Marxist / Utopian ideas.

Leftists NEVER LEARN from past failures but are determined to repeat them over and over.

It's always the same bullshit of a "bright shining city / society of tomorrow" that magically solves all of humanities' problems, real and imagined.

All you have to do is give up some of your rights and freedoms.....Oh and that "pesky" United States Constitution along with them....

“The problem of utopia is that it can only be approached across a sea of blood, and you never arrive.”

― Peter Hitchens

........................................................................................................

The word "Utopia" was coined by Thomas More in 1516 in his book Utopia from Ancient Greek οὐ ‎(ou, “not”‎) +‎ τόπος ‎(tópos, “place, region”‎).

It literally means: NOWHERE

The first report that I encountered online (from CNN) satisfied certain (privately held) criteria of "message board worthiness" that I use to decide whether to create a new forum topic or message.

The concept, called "Telosa", has a website that starts with a 2min 40sec video "brochure."
https://cityoftelosa.com/

12 News Phoenix, an NBC-affiliate, reported on it in a brief (2min) on-air segment.

quote
Former Jet.com founder Marc Lore enlisted the help of Bjarke Ingels Group to envision the future of urban living. Named Telosa, the city concept is planned to be located within the United States and will be built from the ground up. Its unique skyline consists of lattice-like buildings, including a cylindrical cluster called the Equitism tower.

The "beacon for the City" acts as a civic center for gatherings, while a photovoltaic roof, elevated water storage, and aeroponic farms help supply the city. It's surrounded by a lush central park with vibrant public spaces planted with native fauna and reservoirs to store water for the metropolis. The landscapes weave throughout the city blocks with roads built more for bikes and pedestrians. With transportation is needed, slow autonomous cars safely take locals to work, shops, and public spaces.

Lore hopes to begin welcoming residents in 2030.

If it was ever built, which it won't be, it would be a surveillance nightmare. They'll pack it with a type of people you don't want to be around.

Get property out of the cities. Chances of economic collapse, food shortages, utility outages are increasing. You can't McCloskey your way out of trouble.

That has already happened too....about 430 years ago in Italy....and it had exactly the disastrous result that any idiot, even an Italian idiot, could have easily predicted.

..............

Palmanova, Italy was founded in 1593, as "a new kind of society". The town was built to be heavily fortified, taking 7 years to finish the surrounding defenses. But the inside of the commune was always more interesting. It was designed to be a Utopia where everyone could live in peace together.

So they took a load of criminals, including murderers, and relieved them of their prison sentences on the condition that they live in Palmanova and help the town grow.

As anyone could have predicted, the whole town soon descended into chaos.

It’s inhabitants were meant to be self sufficient, but it ended up worse than most of it’s surrounding settlements.....and that is saying a LOT for 16th century Italy

What modern day Leftist utopian political ideology in this country has been screaming to abolish the police and prisons???....hmmm

I don't know what the Post Count is for forum member "randye", but if every one of his messages were deleted that are vulgar, or borderline vulgar and sophomorically triumphalist reactions to "rinselberg", his considerable Post Count would be reduced at least by half. He's been like this for years--I'd have to review the forum archives to say how many years.

I just used the forum Search function to look at some numbers.

The ten (10) most recent Totally O/T forum topics created by forum member "randye" stretch all the way back to October 2020, or almost a year ago.

The ten (10) most recent Totally O/T forum topics created by me go back to August 14, or almost a month ago.

This is why I have said--more than once--that forum member "randye" sounds (or reads) as if he would rather have a Totally O/T-themed screensaver display that he could look at from time to time throughout his day, instead of an online discussion forum or messages board.

There is "none chance" that I am going to dwell on any of his messages in this thread. Obviously I read and reacted to his first one. Whatever he's said here, after that first one . . .

Since you've shown us that you're so good at counting, now tell everyone how many of your 10,854 posts on PFF since you slithered in here back in March 2010 have been.....

..... anywhere outside of O/T

We'll wait....

It shouldn't take you too long.

But don't take too long because I don't think you have all that much longer to be here....

We don't have to go back in time to prove this will fail. Look at the "Shiny City on a Hill", America. They declared it a utopia for all and opened the gates in 1965ish. Today we're in a crime infested ess-hole plunged into national financial slavery to private banks.

Even here in China they learned that capitalism is the best system for building wealth. The rulers still rule using all the utopian rhetoric, but good old fashioned profit drives every single citizen since 1978.
