Most of us are going to end up paying higher prices for our fuel. We get the government we deserve. Fortunately, this effects all of us, not just the folks that don't like petroleum products. It also highlights our weakness as a nation.

The implication is that our entire cyber security system is insufficient to the threat. That electricity you use is also threatened by those that wish to bring us down.
Oh, I know. But I'm saying that with solar panels and a battery storage component you are a little more self sufficient in mobility. A grid tied solar system isn't that attractive to me.
But won't these situations like with Colonial just be used to start a war with Iran, Russia and China?

Will a solar system provide for all your needs? Unlikely in my case.
I doubt it'll drive us to a war but, it is obviously a weapon to be used during a conflict against us.
Well, that's why I said a "little more self sufficient". Of course it makes you less reliant on the grid. And oil changes aren't a thing on an electric car. Currently there are little amount of taxes on electric cars. But fuel has high taxes built in.
Some in the independent news circle fully believe cyber attacks will be false flag blamed on the nations that the global elite want us warring against.
Electric vehicles will be main stream within this decade for sure.
Possibly but, had this cyber attack been to both pipe lines and the electrical grid, we'd all be up a creek with only a paddle. Obviously, if the lock out lasted long enough.
Electric vehicles will be main stream within this decade for sure.
When they're commonplace and something unexpected happens to the grid we'll have people posting about that being a reason they kept their internal combustion engine.

Possibly. One thing I'm pretty sure of is, the current fleet of vehicles I have will be with me the rest of my life. About the only way they will get replaced is if one is involved in some kind of accident or suffers some major mechanical failure. Unlikely though. I drive and ride the most reliable machines made by mankind. Of course, that's just going by the known stats, one never know for sure.
Regardless, the fact that this nation can be held hostage by a keyboard warrior should be a concern to everyone.
There will always be ic engines around me. And there will an electric.
All of which require an outside source for energy controlled by some type of cyber IT. When that gets hacked or shut down. You and I will be up the creek with only a paddle.
Think about this on a larger level, not just about you. Such an "shut down" event could waste the economy of the nation and who knows what else. Such things do start wars.
They never let a crisis go to waste. I fully expect an event to create an enemy of another people instead of the elites running us into the ground that deserve to get the blowback. The federal reserve currency is cooked. We're on borrowed time. Something dramatic will be conjured for us to focus on. Civil war?

I expect things will mostly go back to 'normal' sooner rather than later. I don't see war (civil or otherwise) and doubt retail prices will climb much over $3/gal and even that increase will be short lived and limited tospecific geographical areas not served by Plantation Pipeline.
Regulation of some kind regarding crypto-currency may rear it's head again but I doubt that will go very far.
I do wonder how much ransom darkside's affiliates were demanding tho.
As always, the fuel already in the pipe will have it's price increased immediately. Then the 'scarce' fuel will result in an additional immediate price increase but when it all settles out and things get back to normal, it takes months if not longer for prices to decrease.

We can always hope for political gridlock, and that stupid policies adopted by "private" companies don't have an affect.

Steve, I believe you called that one correctly. Just like most businesses, companies attempt to stay competitive but, will always take advantage of an opportunity to make a greater percentage on ROI. It's the way things work but, in this case, our elected officials have not only encouraged higher prices but have cut the resources to ensure it happens. We get the government we deserve. This shut down is just another opportunity to raise prices and yet, still shows our nation's vulnerability. Let such a group get access to both fuel/pipe line systems and the electrical grid at the same time and this nation will slow to a crawl if not re-established quickly.

Tomorrow's replacement costs of both rack & retail fuels have always been factored in. Not, what it cost to produce/refine/and deliver it yesterday. Very very few retailers raise their fuel prices without being told to by their wholesale rack provider.
Gasoline and diesel are commodities and are priced according what they are traded at on spot at NY Mercantile Exchange and Chicago Mercantile Exchange. Gasoline is around $2.22 here. There may be a glut on refined fuels show up here in the next few days if the Colonial doesn't go back on line and retail prices are expected to remain stable ... or drop if refiners have to cut back production.

When Republc Radio read the release yesterday my thought was, typical lying sacks of feces eaters. They take from the poor in this case. Higher fuel costs harm the poor the most. And they have no alternative but to pay.
These groups don't go after the rich. It's cities, municipalities and not the Sachler family that addicted millions with opiates.
If it's not government, they're allowed to do it by a government. My guess is it's head is where big tech is prolific, has it's hands in all major communications networks and has a Western style government: Israel.
It's pretty much known to be a Russian federation group. They don't do the bulk of the ransom lockouts. What they do, is sell/rent etc the software to others, which they refer to as their 'partners' and Darkside takes a cut of each ransom payment. I have little doubt tho, that the Russian govt has their hands at least partly in it all and use darkside when it's to the govt's advantage. Who they provide the service to is debatable.

It definitely could be Russians, but highly doubtful to be Russian state. The Russian criminal mafia is totally international and completely tied to Israel, and those people do not like Putin's Russia. Putin cast off the oligarchs that installed him and gave the country back to Russians. Israel is where the criminals escape to once they're on Western police agencies' wanted lists.
We don't need the Russians or other underworld criminals to raise fuel prices, we have the Obama / Biden / Buffett syndicate that is already doing a fine job of it.

The software doesn't belong to the Russians, and they didn't create it... it's freely downloadable on Bit Torrent via TOR.

Well, you do have a point. My understanding is that Mr. Buffett was a major contributor to Biden's campaign and wanted that pipe line stopped. He owns most of the rail tankers and a bunch of tankers/trucks that haul that crude. The pipe line completion would cost him a fortune.

It didn't just magically appear out of thin air tho. 'Someone' created it and 'someone' is roughly managing it's use to at least a public standpoint.

Microsoft has publicly attributed the creation of the exploit to a specific US organization. You can do a search for that. Many adversaries have weaponized this exploit into ransomware attacks. It does not necessarily need to be centrally managed, as it doesn't work that way.

While it may not need to be centrally managed, that doesn't mean it isn't. Money and political differences can and do make a difference.
DarkSide also maintains that it will donate a portion of its profits to charities, although some of the charities have turned down the contributions. “No matter how bad you think our work is, we are pleased to know that we helped change someone’s life,” the hackers wrote.
Cybereason found that the group is highly professional, as it also offers a help desk and call in phone number for victims, and has already leaked confidential data of more than 40 victims.

Multiple time guest at the White House when Obama was President. Heavy contributor to both Obama and Biden. I wouldn't doubt that the former white house resident isn't being compensated as an 'adviser' or holds some sort of position within the Buffett dynasty.
I'm just throwing this in like a pebble into a pond.
