I really really want one of these..the old fashioned Chinese/Korean kind..I saw them in action decades ago in Thailand and had forgotten all about them. Evidently, you can buy a new one from alibaba if you can read Mandarin.. I will have to look in to that.

That's pretty interesting. I was a coffee roasterman for years. Most people probably don't realize how much a green coffee bean expands when it's roasted. However, coffee beans are allowed to expand as they heat up (as opposed to the rice and/or wheat puffers). The machines I roasted coffee in did 500 lbs every fifteen minutes. I'm so glad I didn't need to experience a loud BANG! at the end of every one of those roasts... especially at the roasting plant where we had three coffee roasters side by side running continuously!
