$7USD for each cat scalp......in Australia.

Feral (or stray) cats in Australia are evidently a problem, decimating other life forms and the Govt intends to kill off between 2-6 million of the wild furry critters by dropping poisoned sausages all about the landscape.
Queensland is also offering $10AU ($7USD) for each cat scalp turned in...I see a business opportunity for some of our Australian members...

I like it!!
(gotta be easier than trapping aquatic rodents.)

Wonder how expensive it'd be to run a cat farm.

This isn't the first time Australia has done dumb stuff like this. They introduce something in an attempt to eliminate foreign invasion, and they end up creating more problems. Dropping poisoned sausages all around feral areas would likely lead to birds dying, and tons of other wildlife that they're trying to protect by getting rid of the cats.

I think it will work quite well. Cats already kill 2 billion wild birds every year, so I doubt a few poisoned birds are going be a big hindrance with this.

Can the cats not be used to make feed? Or would they need tested?

Seems like a viable option here in the U.S instead of a border wall. Load up pallets with laced burritos and Jarritos soda.

Australia has several invasive species, notably cats and rabbits, I believe the cane toad is another (world's largest toad, and toads eat anything they think fits in their mouth).

The trouble with invasive species, is that they typically are at the top of their respective food chains in their new environments. I applaud such an effort by a government to protect it's native flora and fauna. Australia has such unique creatures and it is quite so very protective of them. Most cannot be owned unless it exists on a nearby island as well.

Bearded dragons are an excellent example of an impressive animal that is kept frequently as a pet only because it was found out of the mainland. Frilled dragons as well.

The best the US has done is reintroduce extirpated animals to their original range in protected lands like national parks. Wolves strike the mind first and best. As an animal lover, I have to wonder the true effect of reintroduction after the fact. Things simply change and locality means a lot in terms of genetics and survival of a species.

Conservation ahead of a catastrophe (pun intended!) Is a smart move. This world should preserve the good things we still have, like natural habitat.

Agreed. Just want to be clear, I don't think anyone is saying that the natural wildlife shouldn't be protected, but I question the decision to throw poisoned sausages all over the place. There's a LOT of things that would like to eat that. I mean... not gonna lie. If I saw a juicy chorizo on the ground... I might seriously be tempted to pick it up and eat it myself... hahah.

Farmers/ranchers here have been begging the State to release and allow use of poison to control feral hogs but all the whiny butt tree huggers have prevented it from happening thus far.

Do what President Trump said.
Send the wild feral hogs to the whiny butt tree huggers sanctuary homes.

Turns out in order to entice the cats into eating them, the sausages are made from endangered birds.

As long as the dead endangered birds were humanely killed or were killed as a result of a clean energy electricity generating program, it will be deemed perfectly acceptable losses/collateral damage.
