Edit: I worked as a union maintenance worker at a fastener company for four years beginning at 19 years old. Later went on to robotics largely due to what I learned as a student under a man named Gary. Not only the proper tools, but the correct fasteners.

Most threaded sensors & senders for many cars are NPT even tho most or all normal bolts are Metric.

Not in this house they ain't! It annoys the crap out of me every time I have to grab a metric wrench to work on the Fiero. There is
no metric hardware on my other cars or my motorcycles.

I don't think the "metric people" ever figured out tapered thread. Any metric threaded sending unit or sensor has straight threads and some kind of soft metal crush seal or thread sealant.
