I've got electric baseboard heat here, so it tends to get dry. I run a tabletop humidifier to compensate and it works great ....BUT no matter where I put it, the thing is just loud enough to be irritating after a while.
I've tried putting it on a folded towel and that actually tilted it just enough to put it off balance and make it worse
Any ideas on something flat and soft that will absorb the vibrations ?
There don't seem to be many around any more, but if you could find a miniature golf course near you, try to get a scrap of the artificial turf they use. I have two pieces that look like green grass on top, but have a foam rubber backing that's about an inch thick. I have one at the front door and one at the back. Something of that type would certainly cushion any vibration. An anti-fatigue mat would also probably do the same. I've even seen sticky-back carpet squares that might work.
Placing the humidifier on a table transforms the table into a sounding board. The machine needs to be on something like a tiled floor or on a well-padded material laid on the floor. We had the same problem with my wife's oxygen concentrators when they were sitting on the hardwood floor. We moved them to the ceramic tile floor in the kitchen and they're much quiter.

Yes, denying electricity to the appliance should eliminate vibration. If it's still vibrating after that, first check for earth quakes and if there is no reported seismic activity, go make sure you've taken your meds.

For just a few dollars, you can buy a foam mattress pad at WalMart or the like in your area. It is actually cheaper than buying a piece of foam. Glue the foam inside a cardboard box and put the appliance inside the box. I built a sound isolation box for a microphone using a plastic storage tub and spent less than $20 for the foam, tub and glue.

Could go ornamental; start a tropical aquarium with a water heater, without a lid. Aesthetics and functionality at once! If you use a filter that hangs to the side and keep the tank just less than full, the heated water and "waterfall" from the filter will raise humidity without much noise at all. Relatively inexpensive to start up if you buy wisely; search for the "dollar a gallon" tank sales, some gravel, a filter, and an appropriate sized submersible aquarium heater. Obviously you want tropical fish. Goldfish do not count
If it has a little atomizer like mine does then you will never stop that ever so light machine noise that is just different than anything else that you will hear it.
Otherwise put it on a pillow like I do to my O2 Generation machine. Pillow works a pad or blanket did not. Got to be thick and fluffy.
Worst case would be......... Well no.......You pussies only have pellet guns. I forgot.

Sounds like the bushings or bearings are out on the blower motor shaft--armature is moving back and forth or up and down. Cheapest, easiest, fastest fix is just go down and buy a new humidifier.

I have never had one that was completely silent, put it in another room
put a pot of water on the woodstove, regular stove. Check to see how often to refill it, Melanie burnt the bottom out of a cheap pan once, then when to a cast iron tea pot.
