A little (very little) google looking found a lot more info on this practice, which you can follow up on if you wish without further links.
I do remember tho, a photo in my oldest great aunt's family picture collection of one of these type photos from within my own family..just didn't realize it was once so common.

A little? Crosses the line for me but, that's me.

I prefer to cherish the memories of those I thought well enough of to befriend while they were alive versus having pictures of them after they die.

The main reason I don't look into caskets at funerals. I'd rather remember the person for their life and not their death.

I suppose there may be a person or two I wouldn't mind seeing dead but, that has more to do with proof of their demise.

Isn't it strange that after a bombing, everyone blames the bomber, his upbringing, his environment, his culture, his mental state but … after a shooting, the problem is the gun?

My Uncle Frank was a staunch Conservative and voted straight Republican until the day he died in Chicago. Since then he has voted Democrat. Shrug

What did you think your family was normal? We all know better. But seeing this was really a common practice back then, maybe they are normal and it is just us from this and younger generation than us that think it is strange.

My mother has some old photographs of some dead relatives in the parlor of her parents home.
