Travels farther in flesh, when you don't want the shallow expansion some smaller caliber hollow points can do.
Lehigh Defense .380 Auto Xtreme Penetrator Ammunition is the latest in their long line of premium personal defense. Featuring a 100% solid copper construction and patent-pending CNC designed projectile. Xtreme Penetrators are among the best personal defense rounds on the market.
No, personal defense. I did my research (check for yourself).
The Ruger .380 LCP is half the price of anything else. The Lehigh ammo gives it the stopping power of a 9mm firing standard ball ammo. And it's comfortable pocket carry. That i'll (hopefully) never use.
I would rather have $200 laying around doing nothing than $400...
Read an interesting article the other day, wish I could remember where, but anyway.
They interviewed a number of felons who had been shot during the altercation that led to their incarceration.
What they remember was the sound of the gunshot and the pain / shock / blood of being shot, NOT the actual incapacity that occurred due to the size of the rounds.
Turns out a .22 is as effective at stopping an attack as a .44.
I know, I know, bigger is ALWAYS better but then again, maybe not. Just sayin'.
I carry my Ruger LCP in my right front pocket. It's perfectly comfortable sitting, driving, walking, whatever. And no one has a clue it's there. You can always carry bigger and heavier, but it's just that, bigger and heavier. Remember, the best concealed carry gun is the one you actually carry all the time. I really like my Glock 21 but the thing is the size of Dallas and I couldn't conceal it 100% of the time. The Ruger is much much easier to carry.
I do have to ask a question of Boondawg. Why the extreme penetrater as opposed to a hollow point? Why wouldn't you want the expansion?

For personal protection I prefer the hollow points myself, but that's me, different strokes for different folks I guess. Then I always alternate my mag loads, FMJ-JHP-FMJ-JHP and so on.

Gotta ask, why do you need the extra penetration that this round offers? I think there's too much risk of the round travelling too far. I'd rather that the round dump all it's energy into the target rather than passing through.
My research convinced me that hollow points for this caliber expand too quickly, greatly hindering penetration. Plenty of Youtube videos showing all kinds of testing by some pretty experienced shooters.
