Wondering if anyone has any experience or recommendation on 12 volt mattress pads (preferred) or 12 Volt electric blankets?

For those interested, I carry four RV batteries in my toy hauler and often overnight it in places I would not consider putting my generator out. I really don't want it to grow legs and run off. In those cases, my travel companion (Spousal Unit) would like some external heat. Because I carry significantly more battery power than most RVs, I'm willing to try one of these mattress pads or blankets. Tried looking at Consumer Reports but couldn't find where they judged any. So, I thought I'd ask here. Any experienced input would be greatly appreciated.

When I was fixing trailers and rv's we had LOTS of them come back. I never opened one up since it was a replace-and-forget type product.

Personally, I've always used a "space" blanket between the sheet and mattress. With the blankets on top it keeps me plenty warm even winter camping (back when I was stupid enough to do that)

Road Pro sells them at truck stops and I got one a few years ago.

But the plugs usually melt down in the first week of use and they kill the trucks batteries in 6 hours. Mine went in the garbage after the plug melted about a week after I purchased it. I used it two times IIRC.

I just layer blankets now, and start the truck to warm it up when needed. Saves me worrying about catching fire in my sleep.

Yeah, I'm a believer in layering also. It's only cold between the sheets for a few minutes.

But, I'm trying to get along so, I'm looking at options.

I've found cheaper ones and some that are pretty expensive. But, haven't found any ratings about use, comfort, reliability and safety. Won't buy one till I hear some good things about one.

First, this is a family forum, those too young for horror and other adult things should not be afraid of coming here and getting such information. But, even more important than that, I don't want that image in MY HEAD!!!!!

No sympathy for her, she should have known what she was getting into.

Having said that, this discussion is not getting me any good info on 12 Volt electric blankets or mattress pads.
Come on folks, I know the knowledge is out there, let it free............................

Steve,
You're preaching to the choir. I'm a believer in layering, Cold Weather training and several "camping" trips in S. Korea, Ft Carson and Ft. McCoy have taught me a lot about how to stay warm in cold weather additionally, I recognize the "benefits" of cuddling and sharing body heat but, I've been asked to investigate 12 Volt mattress pads so, that's what I'm trying to do.

Sharing body heat is normally a good thing, don't go giving me any more images I'm not ready for.

Seriously buy a set of sheets for the bed at home, put them on, the bed sometime when the wife is away. They are not cold when you first get under the covers so no shivering when you first get under the covers.

That makes a big difference in everything. I am on blood thinners so I am always cold but not when we have those flannel sheets are on the bed, hell sometimes I throw the quilt off my side of the bed and have to put my feet out from under the covers.

I have flannel lined pants I wear in the winter that keep me nice and warm outside down to 0.

Contact Schneider or JB Hunt (trucking companies). Seriously. When I drove a pumpkin truck (about 80 years ago), the drivers got a bonus for low (or no) idling. They supplied all the drivers with 12 volt mattress pads. Both Schneider and JB Hunt are known for being cheapskates thier stinginess. I don't know if either of them still supply those but if they do, they'll know what the best (and/or cheapest) brands are and whether or not they're safe (they don't want their trucks burning down).

Anything producing heat draws a lot of power. Just use good sleeping bags, or a few down stuffed covers. In my own motorhome if I dont want to run the generator or batteries, or the on board furnace, I just use a small Buddy heater that uses 1 pnd propane bottle. One will keep a whole 300 sq ft RV warm all nite on one tank for less than $3. I just leave a high window cracked and have a good working CM detector. It also shuts off itself if it detects dangerous CM. Even if it runs out, it takes a while for the room to cool down.

Good thought.

Even if you don't do this get a Carbon Monoxide Detector, and because nobody has said it yet. Try layering flannel sheets.
